Default Unveiled: 2009 Chevy Traverse

Like other Lambdas - 8 passenger crossover. Improvements in powertrain include a bump in power to 286HP and also an improvement in fuel economy which is expected to be class leading.

Hmmm...

The market is getting crowded with these 7/8 passenger crossovers...

Not really. The Equinox is a midsize CUV built on a totally different platform and with a different powertrain.

The Traverse is a full size CUV. Kind of like the difference between a Rav4 and a Highlander.

I was referring to the looks, but your point on the Rav/Highlander difference is well-noted.

It may be done on the same Arcadia-Enclave-Outlook platform, but IMO it actually looks much more like a bow-tie-badged Hyundai Veracruz.....and, like its corporate sisters, will probably compete with the Veracruz.

In Janurary '08 GM sold 7,318 Acadias, 3,390 Enclaves and 1,941 Outlooks = 12,649 total. That's a lot of vehicles in one (slow) month and Chevy will only add to the numbers.

The Veracruz was 1,106 and I would expect that number to grow.

Or it could diminish those numbers. Example: the last minivan from GM was released in Saturn, Chevy, Buick, and Pontiac form and produced minimal sales results because they were so many. If they had only offered it in two forms there would have been more substantial sales between the two, rather than 4.

The main problem with the Veracruz is that its own brother Santa Fe is almost a nice a vehicle for a lower price...but the Santa Fe inexplicably lacks a pull-cargo cover.

I assume the 1941 figure above was for Outlooks? (It apparantly got cut off)

The Acadia-Enclave-Outlook family is selling well because they offer a relatively nice people-mover that, unlike their predecessors at GM, obviously had some care put into the design.....although under the nice new surface fit/finish lurks a lot of the same old GM second-class interior plastic. Still, even with GM plastic, the Enclave's dash, console, and door panels are stunning.

Now......THAT is the way to do wood trim.

The new Chevy, of course, will not equal the Buick's stunning interior, but of course is not meant to. But even so, the aqua-blue instrument lighting is nice and classy...... a touch shared by its brother Chevy Malibu and.....yes.....the Enclave itself.

They are killing me. The Chevy line doesnt need this.....at all. They should have left it the way it was. Plus this doesnt look anything as nice as the other models. I still like the GMC version the best, and they should really add that awesome hybrid powerplant to these CUV's.

Doesn't look bad at all in my opinion. The design of the rear will take a little bit of time to get used to.... but for sure alot better then some of the other poor designs I've seen lately from other car makers.
