What the?

Okay so here's the deal... No damn petrol station in the Eastern 'burbs (Sydney, Australia) has good petrol! Only regular unleaded, diesel and LPG... what the?! The only place I could find with some form of premium was at a Caltex (Texaco), and it's pretty lacking as well. Driving through the inner west of Sydney and all of the stations seem to be out of the good stuff too (one petrol station had NO bowsers with any type of fuel available lol).

What's the story? Is America going through the same thing? I already pay way too much on petrol ($1.65/L for premium) and git my teeth when I see how much I owe the petrol station but when they don't even provide the right petrol without any warning is just cruel... I can't even fill my car up anymore :(

No shortage here at all no matter the grade.

Do you have any worker strikes, as in truckers who otherwise transport the stuff?

gas shortage is a myth, if there really was a shortage youd see lines and out of gas signs, never seen anything close to that here

Its a game for them. Great way for them to generate revenue claiming "shortage".....welcome to the business world....*generate false shortages in order to increase demand, and then raise up prices.

But yes, gas prices are still super high here to. What happened to the good old days of gas prices being $1.50 premium? I would love to ask one of those suits of the oil companies, has supply and demand changed THAT much to generate a price hike more than DOUBLE!? Can production really not keep up? Of course the honest answer would be no, but then that wouldn't put record profits into their pockets now would it?

EDIT: Funny thing, a few days ago i filled up for 3.20 a gallon. I drive by the same place today...3.40. 20 F'ing cents for a couple days, yet it takes 4 weeks to 6 weeks for it to drop back down that much.:thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

the thing is is that oil companies have seen that people will pay 3.00/gallon for gas and not go berzerk about it. So why would they lower it. I have the same bad feeling the same thign is going to happen with ammo prices for people that go to the shooting range. Past couple years ammo prices went crazy up (guessing because of the war and metal shortages) but people are still paying the high prices for ammo

ha!

we've just been approved for a carbon tax (on all fuel, not just petrol).

Anyway, starts on July 1 (although I'm sure gas stations won't mind having a head start) and adds 2.4¢/litre, going up to 7.2¢/litre in 2012.

It's what most people fill their cars up with here in Australia lol... over here gas = LPG (BBQ's, taxis) ;)

$2.40/L and no shortage here in Norway...
You've got it easy. $1AUD = nearly $5NOK...Norway looks like a tempting place to migrate to hehehe

:D Well if you are going to run and keep up with the American big dogs without getting bit you may need to be aware of language barriers :D

You, for example, cannot say things like could you lift my bonnet or my bonnet was stuck or you'd be viewed as into cross dressing in ladies attire.

Feeling peckish, one might think you are making a pass at them.

And "mate" is something domestic pets and zoo animals do :p

The funny thing is that if we say "open the hood", we open the front piece of metal. Over there, they'll think why are you opening the convertible roof to find a dipstick? :P.

Don't worry, a car hood is still a hood no matter where you're from.

People mate too hahhaa :D

Well some *GAS* stations have been filled and just in time for the week's price rise :( arses...

BTW: That nice Australian lady who invented that hair removal product, somebody might want to tell here that NADS is slang here for what you see on the south facing end of a northbound dog that has not been neutered :p

She might sell a few more cases with a name change.

You've obviously been reading a lot of headlines and not many annual reports. Oil companies produce a lot more things than the gasoline you buy at the pump. And while total profits for US-sold gasoline are in fact up, the profit MARGIN (the amount of profit on each gallon) is actually DOWN. They're making more money off of us because we're BUYING more, not because of some grand conspiracy to raise prices. Their big profits are in things like alternative energy. But I guess they should get out of those businesses because they're making too much money....:uh:

Exxon could have run a record LOSS last year instead of a profit, and gas prices would still be about where they are, because gas is a commodity. They CAN'T raise prices more than a few cents above equilibrium or they'll lose money.

And just today congress approved a bill increasing taxes on oil companies $18 BILLION. No good deed goes unpunished. Maybe they'll move their corp. offices to Dubai and say SCREW the U.S. govt.

Along with a whole lot of other companies when socialism takes hold with the next administration.

Gasoline is still cheap in the US. This is the kind of problem (rising prices) that motivates me to work harder and smarter and increase my income. It's usually more effective at addressing the real issue than complaining.

And invest some of your money in the oil companies, like millions of shareholders (including retirees and pension plans) do. They'll be around longer than any of us, you might as well get a piece of the profits.
