I've been thinking of getting rid of my IS (long story). So I went out and test drove a G37. It didn't feel as solid, opening and closing the doors. Perhaps thats because the door isn't a full frame around the window. I liked the dash lighting. The audio/ac controls were cool looking, but I like IS's less flashy but functional design. I must be getting older or something. The G felt slower to me. I didn't go crazy, and you can't go that fast on the roads here anyways. But it just didn't' seem to have a much "pep" to it. I know it has more power but it peaks at higher RPM. It's heavier too.

Has anyone else driven a G37? What'd you think. I'd to get out of my lexus, and my deal really has treated me poorly so I don't want to go back to them, but I find myself liking the IS better.

I test drove one with my friend when it came out last December.
I don't know enough about the IS to compare but I liked it. Granted it was brand new and not broken in, I just test drove it around the block.
At the time, there wasn't a big discount- $47k otd (everything except the tech package).
Friend opted for an 08 G35S sedan for $40 otd (no tech package)-$7 grand cheaper and 2 more doors:p:thumbup:

i used to have an 06 IS350 but now i have an 08 G37. i really wanted a coupe and i tested them all when i was shopping. my IS350 was full of interior problems (read: rattles) and my G37 is solid as a rock. yes, the windows are frameless and might not seem as solid, but this is true of coupes in general. i opted for the 6spd so i actually feel more raw power than my IS350. the IS350 is more sedate, disconnected. same in regards to suspension and steering. granted, my G37 has the sport package and the ride is much more stiff, but thats what i was looking for. i have taken both cars to the track (IS350 @ buttonwillow, G37 @ leguna seca) and i also tested an S5 @ infineon raceway. i couldnt afford the extra 20k for an S5, but that would have been the best choice. the V8 is really nice. the 335i was also another 8-10k more than the G37 and came with inferior nav and no backup cam. the G37 also came with sport seats with 12 way adjustments. i had some major problems with the IS seats (was having lower back pain). i will say though that i feel like the brakes on the IS are better. the integrated ipod adaptor + audio/video jacks makes the G37 great for long distance cruising and now im averaging 24mpg on my trips from SF to LA. IS350 did better @ 27mpg. not surprising interior space is equal if not better in the G37 compared to the IS350 haha. trunk is tiny on the G37, but the rear seats do fold down completely.

My friend just got one yesterday; he got fed up with all the problems with his Audi A3, and just traded it in. He said its lightning quick, handles very good.. got the sport and journey package, so it has 19" rims, 4/2 pot bbk, kit, and sport suspension.

This was an auto, which may affect the feeling of sluggishness, but my IS is an auto too. It was a Journey with Sport and Premium packages. The sticker was about $45k and they were offering me about $43,500. I ask about special ordering the NAV and the salesman told me the list price would have been nearly $50k. The prices seem high. On Guam everything cost more, though usually Japanese cars are the exception.

Test drove one, doesn't feel as fast as the IS because the power deliver is more whoosh, wave like, if you know what I mean, whereas the IS kind of knocks you over the head with the power right away. The G37 drives a HECK of a lot better than the IS, in that the steering is more connected with the road, the ride is a little rougher but gives you more input. Almost felt like a BMW. However, it is a little unrefined, the IS is the better daily driver imo

I drove a G37 Sport when it first came out and thought it was a fantastic
handling car with plenty of power (although not as nice as the LS460's V8).

The downside is that it is a really harsh ride with those 19's. The doors are so
flimsy it's a joke and the looks are not all that great. I prefer the G35 sedan's
more unified look. It almost seems like they were trying too hard on the front
of the car and the chrome spoiler is just the dumbest idea ever. :p :thumbdn:

40-45K is too much to spend on this coupe. I think there are better values
that are equally if not more fun to drive and as a daily driver I think it could
get old quite fast...

The G37 & IS350 are two completely different cars. Well, maybe "completely" is an overstatement, especially if you compare is to the G35 Sedan. But the G37 attracts a younger crowd looking for performance with luxury; that's what makes it very comparable to BMW's in general. The IS350 in the other hand is more oriented toward to casual cruiser who want's a more refined, classier car; and that's what makes Lexus more like a Mercedes Benz.

Also, I'm not sure where the 45k figures are comming from. Around here in SoCal, fully loaded G37's are going for around 40k max.

Both are great cars, with different personalities/characteristics.

Forgive my ignorance please, but a NAV system on Guam? Is there a great danger of getting lost?;)

Definitely not, but I'm addicted to gadgets. I've always wanted a car with nav. Also I probably won't be on Guam more longer then another 2 years and a I plan on taking the car with me.

G37 Sport with 4 wheel active steering and NAV - $44,915 at the Infiniti
site. I got a quote in the low 44K's for that car when it came out. My
friend got one and I must say, it's a coupe and it's highly inconvenient
if you plan on carrying more than 2 people. LOL, and the same can be
said of the IS. Bad bad packaging by Lexus on the IS and GS. :egads:
