Yea, I see them on the freeway driven at ungodly speeds, sucking down fuel so fast you can almost see it come out the tail pipe! :egads::egads::egads:

I actually saw one today on the way home in front of me it said EXCURSION on the left side but appeared to be a rear wheel drive one. The tires were normal size but the body was lower than most. The colour was a two tone red and black all I know was it looked weird before I could look more he pedalled the metal and was gone:egads:

Spoke to a bud with a H2. He complains about 10 MPG but didn't mention anything about getting rid of it.

Well, some families just won't fit in a Miata.

I saw a diesel version a few days ago in downtown Stuttgart. It looked like it belonged to an advertising company as it had funky writing all over it. I didn't have my camera with me to photograph it.

Would have made a funny picture seeing that behemoth parking on literally two car parking spaces! :p

I remember when it came out, my friends and I were amazed by it in terms of it's size. Turns out bigger isn't always better.

Over the summer when I was in college I was working at the post office for a few months and this older kind of red neckish fairly short guy would be on breaks with two friends of mine and he did not like younger people and always complained about younger people especially them buying and driving foreign cars. He said something about my Eclipse and I said it was bought used and made in America by Americans and he just argued how it was still foreign and how I should not own one. One day he came in all serious saying he got a new car and said it was a brand new Excursion. He said it was a "real" vehicle and the biggest SUV you can get on the road. We went outside and looked at it and it was gigantic and was larger then the parking space. We asked him why he needed such a big vehicle like that if it is only him driving it and he just said because he wanted the biggest SUV on the road and that it was pretty much invincible and could handle anything. He was not married, his 2 kids were grown up, he did not go off road or haul anything. We then started saying I think you bought this big SUV to make up for something else and we are all laughing at him. Even the grownups who worked with him were making fun of him for buying such a big pointless vehicle and he was even more pissed off and miserable then he normally was after that. Everybody just shook their heads when they see him in his Excursion.

A few days ago I was driving to home depot and almost got ran off the road by an Excursion because the lady who was driving it could not make a turn without going into my lane because it was so big. I pulled up next to it and it was just one lady in the Excursion with a dumb look on her face, she looked at me and I just shook my head and then she started yapping on her cell phone. I think people's IQ drops a few points when they likw, buy and own vehicles like Excursions and Hummers. I have never understood the lure of this vehicles especially when they are never used for their intended purpose and just used to run errands. If I was going to own an impractical vehicle I would much rather have a fast good looking 2 seat sports car and have fun with it instead of some giant pointless SUV.

lol, good post. Shows the general public is clueless. I also think some of the appeal of SUVs is they were the new "cars" of the 1960s, big, heavy and with V-8s.

Until recently to get a car with a V-8 that was RWD, you HAD to drop 50k on a GS/E/5.

That's actually one of the reasons big, body-on-frame V8 SUV's BECAME so popular. The CAFE rules forced most of the big, 60's vintage V8 RWD station wagons out of the market. GM built the last ones in 1996. Suburbans and Expeditions became the new "full-size" station wagons. Now the second round of CAFEs...and high gas prices.... are going to doom them also.

only 1 person in the boat...what a complete waste of gas!
I looked at the dude and just shook my head.

I havent seen an excursions anymore. They just up an dissapeared from here. I used to see them all the time, but now it's all Suburbans. I think people who buy SUVs with no general purpose of needing them are paranoid about what others think of them.

Saw one the other day driving like a moron, did not pay much attention to it, was all over the road and you could clearly hear whoever driving putting it to the floor on every take off, so at a light I played with it but decided to let it take the lead when the 2 lanes became 1, I usually let vehicles that look like there in a rush go ahead, let him ride the ass of the other guy not me, after it passed I realized it was a police vehicle:D

I don't see them all too often, a couple a week at most.

Driving a larger, heavy SUV isn't a stress free job if your in a large city. If you want to avoid accidents, you gotta have your head in the game.

UDel, I take offense to your post however; practicality is determined by the owner, not the spectator.

Giving the finger? "funny looks"...?

I'm sorry, I didn't know that I had ventured into "holierthanthou.com"

I'll take the Excursion's low gas mileage over the green snobbery over here. I'm sure none of you drive a Lexus LX either right? (which gets exactly the same gas mileage as the Ford Expedition - 12/18. Excursion is no longer sold)

The GX is no better, but of course, no one here would drive one of those either.

FWIW, I drive a lowly 4 banger Toyota.

+1 :agree:

SUVs have become the cheap shot of car enthusiasts I guess. We could just as easily argue that an IS-F is a 'waste' when someone 'should' buy an IS250 instead.

I guess the millions of pickup trucks usually with 1 person in them are a waste too.

I don't resent someone buying a legally available vehicle. It's their money. They have to live with it.

FWIW, I drive a lowly 4 banger Toyota.

I drive my Mazda 4 banger most of the time too. :p
