I'm a mechanical engineer by trade who specializes in load lifting cranes, and that's the terminology we would use. However, on the lower front of the car you could call it a tow hook as you say, even though a hook would be what you put in it... I like your choice scenery and the balance throughout - good eye.

MB2006- Very sharp and detailed photo.
JoeC- You should turn that into HDR, it'll look superb! You stepped foot on someone's mansion or you used a telephoto lens?

That was the only picture I took right there, otherwise I would have someone try and do it for me. No telephoto lens, just the kit lens from the XT. I was on the actual grounds of the mansions, the breakers actually.
Here's a picture of the front:
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd99/ibjoec/IMG_0935.jpg
Most of the pictures from that day got washed out because it was really cloudy, plus you're not allowed to photograph anything inside due to copyrights.
bitkahuna 05-12-08, 07:40 PM Joe C - very nice. That last one of the back of the hotel is a prime candidate for a special filter in Paint Shop Pro X2 (I have) and I'm gonna give it a shot... will post the result. :D
Whenever I get too impressed with my "creative" photography, I think back to
a photo a friend took many years ago - I wish I had a copy. We were sailors
on liberty in the port of Valetta, Malta one cold, damp winter night and all but
incapacitated by what passed for the local libations available at the
waterfront bars. We were both carrying 35mm SLR's and while I attempted to
take a time exposure of the harbor lights from high on a bluff, my shipmate
stumbled off in the dark, ill and suddenly overtaken by the heroic quantities of
alcohol he had consumed.
Flash forward about a month and we get our pictures back from Kodak. My
time exposures worked out pretty well, seeing as I balanced my unsteady
camera on a handy stone wall, not having a tripod available. But my pal
produced the best photo of the cruise - a Leroy Neiman-like splash of brilliant
colors - in brilliant abstract across the print. It was probably the most
beautiful piece of modern art I'd seen in years.
The only problem was we didn't know where he took it. We figured it had to
be somewhere on the streets we'd walked that night, but we were in no
condition to recall the specifics of the photo, or where we had seen it. Was it
a building, or a graffiti-covered wall? A week or so passed and we had posted
it on the bulletin board in our office and during a heavy gale one night at sea
the picture became dislodged and fell to the floor - upside down. The next
morning cleaning up the mess that only a night of 70 foot waves can produce,
we figured it out. We (and the good folks at Kodak) had been looking at it
upside down.
Evidently when my buddy went off by himself he paused under a streetlamp to
become violently ill. As he bent over to rid himself of his noxious stomach
contents, he accidentally pressed the shutter release on his camera - taking
a beautiful if slightly defocused picture of the gutter, a puddle of rainwater
with reflected lights, several pieces of paper trash including a silvery gum
wrapper, and the tip of his shoe - all liberally sprayed with the colorful
contents of our evening's celebration.
You can't tell me that all great art is inspired. Sometimes it's an accident and
occasionally it comes from the gut. :o
Eeeeewww! We now return you to our regularly scheduled program . . .
Here are 2 pictures of my dog. Pro? Not even a beginner yet...

RA40 - very seamless. I've seen some that you can see the lines. Good job!
Thanks Lisa-
It can be challenging at times. With the G9, it maintains exposure for the series. With the SLR, the slight differences in exposure or auto white balance can mess it up. I have one of the Kirishima Temple that auto white balance had it's way and the ever so slight Kelvin change throws chunks into a seamless stitch. All fun regardless and I learn from each one.:)
One of these times, I'll do my version of a Panoramic HDR.
bitkahuna 05-13-08, 10:03 PM Very nice stitch.
One minor suggestion/comment - I wish all of the tree on the left were in frame.

On your 5D, why not use manual mode to keep exposure the same and you can set a fixed white balance too, or just use the RAWs where white balance is irrelevant?
Very nice stitch.

Agreed. I unfortunately didn't do a vertical series. :( There is next spring. One year lesson intervals. :thumbdn:

This was one of those jump out of car and bang a series off. :egads: The past two sessions, I've made lots of errors. It was a kick in the backside how poor my technique has become. :uh:  It's a good refresher.
bitkahuna 05-14-08, 09:12 AM Mike - Appreciate your humble assessment but you've done some beautiful stitches and other photography which I'm sure everyone here appreciates! :woot: And the 5D's an awesome camera so you've got no excuses. :D :D

knihc2008 05-21-08, 08:13 PM An admittedly bad stitch of Colonia Obrera in Tijuana, Mexico. Went here a few weeks ago to help set up a free clinic for the residents there. This place is particularly eye opening as it is basically a makeshift village made on top of a dump site; houses are made from the garbage residents have found in the dump site. You can actually see layers of trash along the sheer cliff faces and smoke rising from chemicals mixing in the trash. Pretty amazing, humbling and saddening.
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/6971/dsc03599fg5.jpg
As far as the stitch goes, ya the lines don't match up, especially that stupid power line that goes across. Didn't know how to fix that without doing some drastic photoshopping. Also my crappy p&s decided it would be nice to really mess with the white balance between shots, especially the last pic. Oh well :[ Just thought you guys might enjoy the view.
Stormwind 05-21-08, 10:28 PM Is that the place where Will Smith drove down the hill throu houses in a car in the movie Bad Boys 2?

No, that movie was filmed in Cuba I think on a hill of some sort, this is an actual, literal dump site.

OMFG are you serious? It's one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. Classic in every way. From the sound track to the way it was shot. Ridley Scott did it. Great movie.

Haha. Harrison Ford did Blade Runner right after the first Indiana Jones movie. :p
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083658/
It's a sci-fi classic about a cop (Ford) on a mission to kill humanoid robots on the run.
Sky looked good so I snapped some shots of the GFs ride

bitkahuna 05-25-08, 08:32 PM venZon - I think I'm going to have to say enough of the HDR pics with the trial watermarks in them.
Not only do I generally dislike HDR pictures :p you're basically "advertising" that software, and that's not allowed.
So buy the software or future pics will be deleted.
Thank you.

I like the water makers because I have had photos stolen from me in the past and use on websites and claim that they were their own.

Yeah that is ture. I've done shoots for friends and they offer me money I could use for the program but I never take it. I'd rather spend my money on equipment right now. It takes me 5min to chop watermakes out anyways.

Chambers- I love the filter pics. Did you do that on just white paper and using natural light or did you use a light box? You can honestly use that in photography sale websites. Did you know that Newegg.com is hiring photographers to take photos for marketing purposes? You should definitely apply. *thumbs up*

Chambers 05-29-08, 07:54 PM lisa85, thanks~ I used some plastic plates I had lying around and also used it to shoot through it for the strobe. ohh and i also had a desk lamp to the left too but iono if that made a difference.

I've heard that B+W keep almost the same image quality as without filter, thats why my filters are now B+Ws.

I actually live with my brother and his wife. They are all moving back to Indo, I will be the only one in America(lol).
The Porsche, I believe has Techart kit all around. They sold the rims because they were tired of getting bent rims :p
whoster 05-29-08, 10:39 PM +1 with Hartawan on better filters.
3 filters for $200? ...a proper polarizer will cost that much...
bitkahuna 05-29-08, 10:44 PM Perfectly happy with Hoya SMC Pro filters - a bit less $ than B+W and still very good.
