Default Just a Thought. Anyone Tempted to Get (or Save Up) for a Used G35???

As a member on here for the third year, I am very well aware of the performance and aesthetic potential of our cars, and I love my car to death. However, to extract that potential to its fullest, a lot of time and money is required. Moreover, as time goes on, the technology of our cars inevitably becomes more and more outdated in comparison to the other cars on the road and tear and wear continues to take its toll as some of our cars on here are 16 years old.

As much as I love my car, I am just toying around looking at other options out there. The only car out there that I can think of that is closest to our car is the Infiniti G35, for it being a big , reliable, luxurious, rear-wheel drive Japanese sports coupe. What is even more appealing about them is that there are some clean-titled, well-maintained, one-owner examples with 70k miles average out there that are as cheap as $15,000

That might be alot of money to some on here but it is quite cheap in comparision to new economy cars on the road and probably cheaper than building up our cars.

Lets have a breakdown of the costs to build up our car:

base vehicle cost + coilovers + bushings + bbk + wheels + bbk + body kit & paint + lighting upgrades + engine swap or force induction + replacing misc broken stuff like climates, panels, cluster etc.

Add all that up and it probably exceeds the cost of a newer used G35. And the G35 can pretty much do almost everything that our cars can do, if not better, for it's design being 10 years newer. What's your guy's opinion on this?

I like the G's but there's something about the SC that keeps me there lol. You're right I probably could have bought a G by now with the money spent but they are a dime a dozen here where I live. My friend PJ who's a member here has both a G35 and 1jz SC lol.

I indeed do have both. The G is quite refreshing, but I still love driving my SC every now and then. The G is a great DD.

Uhh VQs guzzle gas, you won't save much if any gas. Its also an engine you will want to drive the snot outta of, which doesn't help MPG.

The G35 took the GS blueprint and added Infnitiness to it.

Very nice car, not for me.

I recommend you get an 05-07 G35 Coupe with low milage. They have significant upgrades over the 03-04's. For a low milage 05-07, you'll be looking at 24-30k depending on which options are on and the condition they are in.

Also, as an owner of an 06 G35 Coupe, let me warn you, this car is VERY expensive to modify. At the end of my modification list, I will easily be over 15,000 dollars in just modifications. And there's nothing I can do about it... modding cars is an addiction of mine

If you do find one for 15k, I'd be worried about it not having a clean title unless its an 03 with ~75,000 miles.

PS. Yes, this car does guzzle gas. One of the very few downsides of the VQ

As I've only had my IS350 9 months, I won't have the same perpective about this issue as you do with your older Lexus. If I was in your shoes, I might consider a used G35, only if it was the newer body style, and I don't think you can pick up a clean one for $15k just yet. The older G35's just don't do it for me. So my answer to your question would be no.

Ive definately thought about a G or a Z. Went out and test drove an 04 350z not too long ago and while the VQ felt and sounded great, It felt good driving home in the SC.

I'd stick with the SC unless it's giving you major problems. It'll cost you a bunch more to mod the G just because there are so many more parts to tack on.

Technology-wise, stock for stock...sure the G may have some fancy gizmos. But you can prolly get better quality for less by going aftermarket.

What you can't change is the cars appeal. G's are dime-a-dozen whereas a well maintained SC is a diamond.

The reason I keep my SC is because I don't see 10 on the road every day.
