That's enough wood to reduce the seating capacity of a new sienna to 5... :D :D. It takes about an hour with three people swinging with hammers....

No direct relation. Most the time I was asked if I was the fly fisherman. It's amusing to have such a common name. Even more fun when the local high school girls would call me up and ask about so-n-so. The fun ended when the wife picked up the phone and set them straight. :(

Some set-up background.

The amusing part of this was the horseshoe. While farriers are around, tourists like me finding such props can be challenging. Though not completely shown, this horseshoe was forged by Red St. Cyr. He holds title as a Mastersmith in American Bladesmith Society (ABS) as well as a Master Farrier. http://www.revaforge.com/

Red attends some of the local knife shows and some years back, I'd been shooting items for a NM rancher. Trying to keep theme with ranch work and horses, Red was gracious to help with my prop collection.

A shot of Red forging.

Raspberry Tart

Really nice pics Lisa.
Quick comment/question though - is it me or are the highlights blown on these? I see you're using a D300, maybe the D-lite exposure adjustment is overcooking things?

On the tart pic - the white cloth behind is a bit blinding. :p You might also consider cloning white at the top so the edge of the table is removed or just cropping it down.

RA40
06-04-08, 10:19 PM
One of the shots from Japan. The garden area of the Castle Park Hotel, Kagoshima, Japan.

The highlights got cooked due to the scene falling part way in shade and sun. G9, ND filter on. Windy day also. :(

Thanks guys.

The raspberry tart was intially suppose to be just raspberry and the tart. However, my friend was bored and drizzled chocolate over it but it looked too dark when the pic was taken. So the owner sprinkled sugar powder over it. The lighting was simple - taken int he display case they had. I personally dont have any lighting equipment as I will invest in some in the future. On PS, I just increased the level. I really wish the chocolate wasn't there to distract the photo tho

Bitkahuna - i have no idea. Didn't play with the Dlighting here. Just increased level *shrugs*

picture #1 too much saturation and the 2nd one looks too bright. what do the originals look like? sometimes, only a little bit of editing needs to be done to make a picture look great.

i need to stop using school computers to do my photo editing, my laptop is better at it than those wacked out lcd screens (i always forget to check the calibration/settings on the school monitors :p)

the pictures themselves (unprocessed) weren't that great, and overexposed a decent bit, i need a decent bit more practice to get my basics down properly.

i redid the images on my laptop (god i wish my desktop was running right now ) but im still not too happy with them.

image EXIF info is still intact as well if that helps :)

oh, and being relatively new to the photo forums, im wondering if this is the best thread to throw up unprocessed pics im not sure about and am looking for critiques/suggestions on?

Not that I know of, but save for web is really for optimizing the graphics of a website. If you have a couple hundred little gif's and jpegs shaving a couple kb's off each one will make a difference. Also I think that 99% of people visiting the "post your pictures of the month" thread would have broadband or be willing to pay the price so that saving a few kb for the purpose of this thread really isn't necessary.

Here's the same picture one saved using File>Save As..>Jpeg Level 10 (out of 12). The other is Save for Web...>Jpeg 75% quality. The difference isn't even 100kb

Thanks. Well the first one is better to me as it has the EXIF in it.

2 more:

Nice compositions, acasper.

You asked about getting a better camera... well of course we recommend digital SLRs here and good lenses, the more you can afford the better.

Since you're a Nikon shooter, maybe you should look at one of those. I can't recommend one because I don't know your budget or prices there in Andorra.

In #12 you didn't really need all the DOF f/10.0 gave you. You could have opened up to 6.3 and used an ISO of 200. What mode was the camera in? Most of the time I use Aperture Priority. I either use it to control the DOF or if I don't need a lot of DOF I can let as much light in as the lens allows for the fastest shutter speed.

If he only would break down 10 feet to the left or right. LOL :egads:

This was shot from our balcony overlooking the beach.
People getting stuck all day long.
This one girl got stuck in a small front wheel drive. they got her out. told here where to drive, 10 ft later she makes a left and get stuck again.

I love Florida to bad it's so far away from us.

I've stuck my fingers along the side of an outlet like that one, either wallpapering or painting and you can get a nasty shock and burn that could knock out a toddler like yours. Get that cover plate back on ASAP. I'm used to it, but current affects different people in many different ways, and kids are especially vulnerable. :eek2::cry:
