Allright, my sis and i are headed down to the Denver/Colorado Springs area at the end of next week. She is interested in getting a 4 door Yaris, preferably 5-speed. Now ive checked Yahoo Autos and ebay and those are very hard to come by nowadays, they seem to be selling as soon as the dealer gets them. The one we were looking at sold today, so still looking for 1. What do u guys think of this vehicle? Personally i have no interest in them being that i am completely satisfied with my Lex LS, way better car!
I know the the dealership here in Boulder (North of Denver) had at least three or four a few weeks ago. I think the majority of the ones they get are hatchbacks though. What brings you to Colorado btw?
It gets the job done for cheap. You have a good engine with space efficiency and cost effectiveness. Gas mileage is great (30+ mpg) and insurance is cheap. Safety ratings have been good, but not great (but then again, compacts of this size are about equal).
It's a bit loud inside, but I doubt that most people do not ride it at WOT. And although cleverly spacious, it isn't roomy. It's a little quirky looking, and most people are unmoved by it's unique interior design.
My co-worker has one, and she loves it. Of couse, she wants more power and space, but for the price, she couldn't think of driving anything else. She's a single mom who's penny-pinching during our crazy economy, and she finds that the Yaris is best for that penny-pinching driving.

Me, my sister, and her 2 kids are headed to Colorado Springs to go see my brother. He just got stationed there (military).
I'd get a Fit way before I'd pick up a Yaris because I just don't like the interior. I say just start calling around. How far are you willing to drive to get one?
As stated above, the Yaris gets the job done. Most people are either looking for a cheap beater or a second car for tuning... The Yaris just happens to fall in the gap. The hatchback gets about 35 mpg (actual from a coworker) and the sedan falls just under that at about 33 mpg (actual from a coworker).
A Scion xD may be a decent contender if she wants to shell a little bit more money out.
The Fit isn't too bad either, but I'd stay within the Toyota family I'm slightly biased.
Cheap, economical, and extremely well-made, especially in the hardware (better than on some larger Toyotas), but the center-stack gauges would be a deal-breaker for me....in my book that is a strict no-no. But if your sister can live with them, go for it.
Just try not to let the dealership pad the figures too much. Cars like the Yaris are in high demand/short supply today, and that means tough deals in the showroom.

Depends what she's looking for. The Yaris can't be beat as a cheap, reliable and fuel efficient car. Cheap to buy AND maintain. Now it isn't exactly the nicest car to drive (driven them for a week on two separate occasions - one courtesy car, one rental and they get the job done but still make it known to me it's a subcompact). It's spacious for the passengers but the hatchback has zip cargo capacity with the seats up. The Yaris Sedan is a lot more spacious cause it's a bigger car and has a bigger trunk. It's also slightly better built imo just because it's sold as the "Belta" in Japan and as a "premium subcompact" as can be noted with its soft-touch opening cupholders vs. the Yaris Hatchback's manual folding cupholders.
If she wants the hatchback convenience, the xD is a good alternative (plus everything is standard with a Scion). Or wait for the new 2009 Fit.
