DEARBORN, Michigan — Spy photographers caught the 2010 Shelby GT500 this week, and some interesting new details were revealed. A new mesh grille can clearly be seen, with new auxiliary lights placed at its corners. The Cobra badge is still in place, but it's taped over in black, and is just barely visible.
The Shelby's camouflage is pulled tight to the front bumper, and the round foglamps are exposed. While a prior Shelby GT500 prototype was wearing the wheels from the current model, the latest test car shows new open-spoke five-star wheels, and the rear rubber looks notably wider than the front.
On the inside, the Shelby GT500 prototype appears to have been outfitted with at least one Sparco EVO2 high-performance seat for the driver, but the passenger seat is covered. The prototype is also fitted with a roll cage.
What this means to you: The racing seat and roll cage could mean that this prototype is preparing for some high-speed testing. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
