"The first of Nissan's GT-R supercars was delivered in the United States on Monday morning--and it was hardly a low-key event.

The first customer, Daryl Alison, of Costa Mesa, California, took delivery at 12:01 a.m. Pacific in a Los Angeles dealership in a ceremony with longtime Nissan racer Steve Millen.

Alison, a Nissan fan who has owned a number of 350Zs and other sports cars, paid the sticker price of $72,900, including destination charges, for a black GT-R premium model.

The 480-horsepower supercar has been one of the most anticipated launches in recent memory, creating a buzz on the auto show circuit. The car was timed lapping Germany's famed Nürburgring circuit in just 7 minutes, 29 seconds.

About 1,700 of the roughly 2,400 GT-Rs coming to the United States have been already reserved."

LOL. Isn't that ironic?

Normally people would cry bloody murder if they had to pay MSRP.

I hope all other Nissan dealers will follow so they don't markup the price. The black GTR looks beautiful. Too bad it is out of my price range.

You guys think that in about a year, the GTR could routinely be had at MSRP, or maybe even a small discount in some areas?

Wait about two years and people could get it for at most MSRP, if not even less. My dream is not owning one, it is simply seeing them on street when I am driving my IS. I am very happy for this new GT-R owners.

This is a very good sign for GT-R buyers. BTW, why 12:01 AM? Was delivery required to be on or after July 7th?

Is this the car that has an incorrect HP rating? I have heard the Nissan lies about how many ponies one of their cars have and the real number is really higher than the number listed
