I just turned 16 and being "handed down" a 2003 Lexus RX300 FWD
It has 65,500 miles on it and gets around 15-16 mpg (I have a heavy foot)
I was thinking of trading in the RX for a '09 IS250 W/ALL options (Nav,ML,intuitive park etc)
Trade in says around $13,850? Am i being raped?
Private party says $3850 more so i may just go that route
also the "D" light on the odometer is out Is it covered under warranty?
Dealer says it is $300 to fix it
Also my rear brakes are out and is $500 to replace them
Should i just trade it in as is or just do it?
I think you'd probably have more fun in the IS. And an 09 IS is definitley not a downgrade from an 03 RX300.
Try to sell your RX by private party first, although this is a tough market for used cars right now (unless you're selling a Prius). It has an extended warranty, so get your D light fixed.
Do the brakes if you can, as a lot of used car buyers will like the fact that there isn't any deferred maintenance waiting for them (it will help sell your RX faster).
If this is true then this explains why some BMW drivers are super cocky
Because cockiness is determined by who makes your car? This thread is going down the wrong path.
As for downgrade, I feel our IS is a nicer car than the brand new RX loaner we got. The cars are in different classes though, you shouldn't compare a SUV/SAV/Cross-over to a Sporty Sedan.

10 Lexus Bargains That are Cheaper Than a New Toyota RAV4
OP asked for advice about a Lexus to Lexus trade. He is not trading for a BMW so why bring it up? If you can't give him sound advice don't bother replying at all. Stop wasting peoples time.
I say go for the trade. I think an IS is an upgrade from a G1 RX300. It would be a little harder choice if it where the current RX350 though.
CK6, the interior of the RX seemed cheaper to me compared to the IS. It was still a nice little SUV though.
I owned a 2004 RX330. I would have to say neither are GS/LS category, but neither are cheap feeling. I think fit and finish are about the same, but its the interior "Look" that may sway one person one way or another.
What I do like about the RX350 is the more powerful motor vs the IS250. Plus we all know the IS is basically a two seater with a cosmetic back seat
It might be the interior look. The door panels didn't look right to me. I agree with the IS back seat. The trunk opening isn't that great either. One thing for me that would steer me away from an IS is the lack of a folding backseat. Going from a RX you would have to consider that if you are used to the utility of a SUV. It doesn't make sense to me that the IS doesn't offer a fold-down backseat.
+1 lol... I sort of regret not getting a BMW after my little brother got one =/
It is not a downgrade... plus newer model = better to many...
like someone maybe driving a 100k car 20 years ago.. some will see it as a pos...other will see it as it was back in the day...
Thanks for the advice
The IS250 does 0-60 in 8.5 sec?
I also went to the dealer and the said that the "D" light on the odometer is NOT covered under warranty. I asked them how much it is to fix it and they said $350.00 to fix a $2.00 bulb
Can anyone help me find where in the warranty booklet this is covered
WTF does this warranty cover? Powertrain? the factory is 6/70k
so why would anyone pay $2,000 for 7/100k just for an extra year of powertrain
