She couldn't tell from all the wind noise that something was wrong? She must not have looked in her rear view mirror, not even once, in those 4 miles. Sad

Maybe it broke, but definitely not good to have all that resistance pushing the roof back.

Funny but just Saturday night this happened. Its a late night spot with valet parking. Well around 1am, they stop valeting and anyone can park anywhere. THis guy basically ran to his 645i Convertible at 1:01 am as I was sitting outside. So he reverses his car right in front of the door since valet is gone, trying to parking lot pimp.
He then proceeds to drop the top and well, it didn't drop, it dripped. His top got stuck like 3/4ths and all you see are like 40 pieces of BMW going everywhere.
My group is looking at asks "Mike, is it supposed to do that"? And I'm like "Yes, it has German electronics".

LOL. Reminds me a of a story. My friend decided to place a bolt on turbo on his e30 m3. Having high compression, duh. So while on the highway he miss shifts from 5 to 2, instead of 5-4. Let just say, driving behind was not fun because he had bits of engine parts coming out of his exhaust. :D

No. That doesn't look like the correct angle for downforce. In fact, it looks just the opposite.
Not to insult any BMW owners here (like the car in the picture), but just leave it to German manufacturers to get the electronics messed up. VW, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes are well-known for electrical problems. While there are a number of things that could have caused the top cover to stick like that, the most likely is a bad electrical relay.

You're thinking top off not down. Targas/t-tops can do that and roadsters. Which brings me to the question of why people with convertibles get toneau covers. I see BMW 3 series with toneau covers all the time, it's not like they don't offer the car in coupe form. If you don't like the soft top look just get the coupe with a moonroof.

Because that is the`way the manufacture made it. The first Corvette in 1953 had a cover as part of its design and the same basic design [with a few modifications] has been kept in the new Corvettes. But car makers have been designing top cover on their cars for a cleaner look long before Corvette became a dream of Mr Harley Earl. Back in 1935 the AUBURN Speedster was designed with a metal tonneau cover
let me guess, the driver was also drinking starbucks and texting/talking on her cell phone at the same time right? most likely teenage kid listening to some godawful music? someone on the sweet 16 show for example. f-ma, you should have raced the person haha

No, I meant full roof covers.

OK now I understand but that is not considered a tonneau cover. I have A hard top like that for the Corvettes I have owned. The are nice to have in NY in the winter, but now that I have moved to SC they are pretty useless. I always like the way the roof changed the look so I had a car that had a different look in the winter and summer, plus the car is quieter and less drafty with the hard top. I would have thought that someone from a cold weather state like Mass would understand why a hard top would be nice to have in the winter.

Well, what would you consider awful music? To this day, I still like super-heavy, head-pounding 80's Metal......Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Scorpion, etc.....
