What tool do I use w/Quick Mask mode. The hand doesn't do it and the paintbrushes don't either. Once I select Quick Mask mode, what tool do I use to make it red?

when in quick mask mode you can use whatever tool you like. The paintbrush, pencil, and airbrush should work. I like the airbrush it makes a more accurate selection. Make asure your opacity is on 100%

Thanks for these Writeups, futuregs. It's great to finally know how to use some of these tools in Photoshop.

Now being a Moderator of a PS forum I would hope you would know more about "Quick Mask Mode".

Let me correct or better explain this mode:

First things first is make sure you have the default
Colors in your tool palette black and white. You
can achieve this by D on the keyboard to reset the
colors back to black(foreground)whire(background)
Now the default colors on the tool bar have to set
to this or you cant start masking off areas. Now the
you can use and arrangement of tools to start
masking. The Brush, pencil, airbrush, paint bucket,
gradient tool, and the erase tool. I can explain to you
in more detail if you see me on my messengers AIM or
Yahoo.

um no, you DO NOT need to have the default colors to use Quick Mask mode. I use it all the time and I always have different foreground and background colors. Thats how Photoshop has been since I can recall back in 5.0

Now let me explain futher since Mr PHOTOSHOP seems to know
it all. I said you have to have the default colors set to Creat a "masked" section(area). You can edit the mask by painting with any of the painting tools. Use black to add to the mask (the reddish area), and white to subtract from it.

Painting with gray, or any other color creates a semitransparent area sometimes used for feathering, or anti-aliasing. This is an advanced technique that I would play around with. Using a different color other than the DEFAULT colors isnt gonna give you the marching ants you are trying to achieve.

But as all goes what do I know LOL. I only been using PS since it was released on MAC as 1.0. Oh well not hard feelings Moderator. I just have to correct you again. Lets not educate people half ASRE backwards. Like
I said you have a ? ask me on my AIM messenger I would be
more than happy to explain any PS ?'s you may have

Ok lets get this straight:
A. My forum
B. I will explain the way I want...Why it's quite simple, this isn't a forum for LEARNING photoshop, therefore there should be no newbies on these forums asking questions. If someone has a question they should already have basic knowledge of how to use it, especially Quick Mask mode. I will also explain it my way because well, I am the moderator and what I say goes.

Now if you would like to dispute with me the way I explain things in my forum you can PM me. Otherwise your more than welcome to join us.

One more thing, I don't care if you've been using photoshop before it was even released. The amount of time you've had it doesn't show your skill. Your imagination is what runs the show in Photoshop.

Well someone OBVIOUSLY wanted to teach something. Now that I think about it I looked at the top. I see that there is someone teaching people how to edit images. The key word here is TEACH. I didnt know you were the one that created PS. I shouldnt of insulted your intelligence. Your right this is your forum
and you have all rights to do whatever you want. But if I feel there is a better way to explain something. Then by all means I will give my knowledge of wisdom. And the statement you made:

One more thing, I don't care if you've been using photoshop before it was even released. The amount of time you've had it doesn't show your skill. Your imagination is what runs the show in Photoshop.

Now let me correct you AGAIN. First its not the imagination that runs PS. It would be the knowledge you can apply to Photoshop.
If you dont know your tools then how can you apply your imagination ? Some people my be more creative than others, but
if you dont know who to drive more HP isnt gonna get you to the
finish line first ;)

Thank you again !!!

Oh and BTW I did PM you.

And you have all right to give your "wisdom" however, when it starts demeaning mine, it starts problems. If you had just posted something such as, "In case you don't understand what futuregs is saying...." or "To further expand on what he is saying..." that would've been the more appropriate thing to do.

Regarding the imagination thing, I agree with that somewhat as well, obviously you ned to know what each tool does, however, what if you know each tool and have no imagination? What to do then? Therefore imagination is basically your engine to photoshop, not the tools. Anyone can learn how to use the tools, it's the people who KNOW how to use them that counts. ;)

By the way you said you PMed me, however there is no new ones in my Inbox. Did you send to wrong name?

Ok Ok Ok I looked over the posts and I

did probably sound like a self-center

Photoshop god LOL(no pun intented).

I would be more than happy to assist our

forum moderator. Helping out some of

the people who are registered to this forum.

I have been using PS for a long time and I

guess I could share some of the tips and

tricks. I have picked up along my PS journey.

And if you would rather someone else

assist you. More power to you. No one is

twisting your arm !!! So if there is anything

you would like to ask or maybe you would

like something chopped, shopped

or dropped. Just ask me. I have my AIM

messenger(markuscoolest) on all the time.

I work out of my home(freelance). So

the chances are pretty good of IM'ing me.

If you have imagination, you really don't need to know all the tools to make good things out of photoshop. I rely on cut/paste, color matching, and eraser to do most of my work, and I don't hear anyone complaining! :D

I have no idea what you guys are talking about with masks and etc. but lol hey, it's not how you make it, it's what you make ;)
