View Full Version : Why Are (Many) Nissan Drivers So Bad?
Since I revealed myself to be a bigoted, generalizing schmuck in the Audi thread ;), I figured I would start this one up. It's sure to generate some controversy, since I know we have many current and former Nissan owners on this board. Anyway...
I have noticed that at least 50% of the time when someone on the road pisses me off (driving under the speed limit in the left lane, going really slowly to an intersection then running a yellow light so I get stuck, leaving their blinker on for miles, cutting me off without warning, choosing to wash their windshield right in front of me right after I've waxed my baby, almost hitting me without looking where they're going, basically anything that makes me think "What a jerk!") it turns out to be a Nissan. I have shared this theory with family members and friends, and invariably they laugh at first then come back a week or a month later with awe in their voices and say that I'm right.
I don't know what it is about Nissan vehicles (and Infiniti counts, too)--something about their design or marketing or whatever, but it attracts BAD DRIVERS. Now I'm not saying that all Nissan drivers are bad; of course not. But given the percentage of vehicles on the road that are Nissans, they account for a disproportionately high number of "driving jerks".
So I challenge you first to take note from now on when you're driving. Whenever you see behavior that makes you wonder how someone got a license, notice if they're driving a Nissan. Let's revisit this in a week or a month once you've had a chance to pay attention for a bit and we'll see if anyone agrees with me. Then I'd love to discuss any theories as to why Nissan just seems to attract bad drivers!
TruenoHatchiRok 05-15-02, 04:35 PM lol.....my family owns two infinitis, a Q45t and an I30t :p
Yea, my mom(q45t driver) drives wayyy too slow.
AND, my sis(i30t) drives recklessly.
So yea, maybe u are right....lol
I'll be watching those other nissan/infiniti drivers too ;)
futuregs 05-15-02, 08:59 PM maxima drivers think their 220HP owns the road.

i drive a NISSAN myself i think i'm alright, i hardly give anyone problems but other drivers do give me problems and most of the time they turn out to be ACURA owners.. it happen to me times that acura drivers slow down their car for no reason just to check out my NISSAN..and they will drive next to me ask dumb questions and say how awsome my nissan look.. some would drive like crazy just to look at my nissan..i hope they pay attention to the road so they don't crash their acura...well it happen to me almost everytime i drove my nissan.. can those acura drivers just leave me alone..i know they are jelous cause they drive a acura and i drive a NISSAN..what do you guys think?

that's because you drive a weird Nissan :D
I'm sure I'll find everyone weird if I drive a weird Suzuki (Escudo Pikes Peak :D)
I find Acura drivers more annoying than Nissan drivers (Teg, TL, CL, heck even MDX!)
splitfire 05-16-02, 03:35 AM that's because you drive a weird Nissan
ya it look weird even it is stock:rolleyes: couple Boxster owners offer me if i want to trade my NISSAN for PORSCHES + $$$ but i said nah.. its cool..wait till my other NISSAN coming out of the shop I should be able to keep up or smoke the 911TT in my modded NISSAN..
lex400sc 05-16-02, 03:49 AM Hello! BMW drivers are the WORST! They are wreckless, rude, and think they own the road! Everyday, I see some BMW crackhead weaving through heavy traffic doing +90mph. And they'll cut you off just to get in a faster moving lane thinking they have the right to! And forget about getting pissed at a bimmer driver and letting them know about it. Even if they caused a ten car pile up, they'll be damn insulted if you give them a disapproving look. Even when you try to be nice and let one in ahead of you, they don't care. They'll toss you aside and cut off the next guy. Guy and girl bimmer drivers alike. This 740iL pissed me off so bad today and when I finally caught up to it, it was some dumb broad. And when I pulled beside her, she was all calm and unaware of her surroundings. She wasn't in a huge emergency rush somewhere, nor did she realize she almost caused an accident. This looked to be her NORMAL everyday driving style. Argh!!! Had to vent....
1SICKGOAT 05-16-02, 06:02 AM Back in the day, my mom reversed her Nissan Sentra into our Ford Taurus IN OUR DRIVEWAY!?!??
My friend in his 98 Altima just wrecked it.
On the other hand, my 2 Maxima buds (98 and 01) are pretty good drivers too me.
Don't have any Infiniti friends (weird) considering you can get a used one for the same amount as filling my tank up.:D
I dunno, but I'll look into this.:D :D :D
Lexusfanatic 05-16-02, 06:03 AM I think BMW comment deserves a whole new thread... Just a thought. :D
I live in a more underpriveleged part of our wonderful nation so I can not relate here. When I was growing up in Chicago land, there were plenty of upscale cars, I noticed the most problems were caused by the elderly or the inattentive - like those on cell phones.
Out here in KY - it is usually a big beat up old pick up sending a screen of black or white smoke to the sky and blinding traffic behind. Then there are the drivers taking a southernly pace - eerrghh. It is not specific to brands - around here. You can usually get a good estimate of a persons ability to reason and react - basically pay attention by the way they drive. It is not the ultimate gauge of intelligence but it can be handy.
I will never let my girl drive the lexus.
GlobeCLK 05-16-02, 12:44 PM come to think of it......
ALL my nissan/infiniti driving friends/relatives have been involved in some sort of major or minor crash/accident! EVERY ONE OF THEM!

 That thing is in Rallisport Challenge. I thought they made that thing just for the game. It reminds me of a bat. I haven't unlocked it yet, but I can't wait to drive it. The "wing" is straight from a Boeing 777. :D
BTW, I love your new sig. Gorgeous. Bad-ass ****.
Toog4me 05-16-02, 01:37 PM I think everyone w/ their high HP thinks they own the road ... whether they choose to do so safely or like a dumbass...
I hate 300zx owners who think they own the road though!!!! And esspecialy those 240sx people!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I'm sure some Boxter owners offered a trade on your Nissna
what do you got a 300zxTT? you won't be smoking any 911TTs in any Nissan except the 240sx with a really big turbo or SR20 swap and a big turbo on that... 300zxs will sit and spin... or break down before they get 60' out
there are lots of 300zx owners that think they are hot **** Toog4me... i used to be one; but then i road in an actual fast car; and my Z broke down all the time; burnt the transmission, etc
the only older nissans i would own would be a Z31 300zxT, and a 240sx with a SR20 swap... but i have noticed a lot of their owners think they are the fastest thing on the road... until they race a real car :D
truth be told; i've never had problems with nissan drivers... its been Acura and BMW drivers (especially OLD BMW drivers); confused thinking their 20year old bimmer is gonna turn heads or something lol
GlobeCLK 05-16-02, 09:53 PM speaking of old Nissans......
The only old Nissan I would like to get is an old, OLD S30 Z, bored to 3.1 liter, tri-turbo, 620bhp  top speed over 190mph.
Wangan Midnight is great :D Not as good as Initial D but certainly worth reading.

splitfire 05-16-02, 11:42 PM Yeah I'm sure some Boxter owners offered a trade on your Nissna
beside boxster owners my friend's friend also want to trade his acura NSX-T for a nissan:rolleyes:
what do you got a 300zxTT?
i got 2 nissans, bcnr33 v-spec & bnr32..my brother also had 2 nissans.. bcnr33 & bnr32.. my company has a bone stock bcnr33 v-spec which is the one i drive now...
you won't be smoking any 911TTs in any Nissan
you joking right?? go check out this guy website http://www.exvitermini.com looks like all his nissans would smoke 911TT.. i smoke a e46 M3 a while ago in my company's bone stock nissan:rolleyes: 911TT will be my next target when my other nissan is out of the shop..
GlobeCLK 05-17-02, 12:46 AM I see the other company car in the back over there :D What happened to it? I saw a spare tire on it a while ago.
When are you going to replace it with the E or GS?
splitfire 05-17-02, 12:56 AM When are you going to replace it with the E or GS?
i'm selling the es now so as soon someone bought it I'm going to get a bigger sadan.. i'm pretty sure it will be a GS and i'm already looking for parts to build up another company toy:D
GlobeCLK 05-17-02, 01:33 AM your company is having too much great time :D
looking for part time employees? :D (delivery preferred :D:D:D)
didn't know you had a Skyline :) as for any other Nissan, I seriously doubt it.... thought you were being a typical 300zx owner
oh; and the owner of exvitermini is also running much larger turbos than you will be i'm sure; along with a Motec and custom head-cooling system for major rpms and major boost...
thats cool that you and everyone you know has GTRs, now as for the rest of the normal world; we don't have that...
you might be able to beat a stock 911TT; which is no small feat in itself; but there IS an aftermarket for 911TTs too... i've heard of several running 10s on the stock turbos
and you don't have to act all JDM n **** to be cool around here :) We know what a BCNR32 V-spec is and what a BNR32 is; you can be a normal human being and call them a "Skyline GTR V-spec" or a R32 Skyline GTR... writing out car names with their full chassis code is lame imo...
you don't see me talking about my JZZ30 or FC3S, or my friends JZA80 or MA70 :)

I find it easier to tell what cars people have by seeing the whole chassis code.
If someone says "I have a S13 Silvia." Well, which one? Silvia coupe? Silvia hatch? 180sx or 240sx? turbo or NA? Which package version? 1.8 liter CA18DET or 2.0 liter SR20DET? All of that can be answered by a simple RPS13. :D
Of course people here in US only gets "PS13" and "S14". Sad.

I saw one at a car show somewhere else..
splitfire 05-19-02, 01:36 AM rear..
splitfire 05-19-02, 01:39 AM i saw part of the video at the show.. this car is super fast!!!!!

do you have any idea how MUCH aftermarket parts cost for 911TT ?? Actually I had a chance to get the 911TT last year but I decide to get a nissan instead. I was only 22 and I don't think i can afford to fixed up a Porsche.. a 55K retail car with about 35K in mod I'm sure it will be better than 911TT and it is cheaper too...
writing out car names with their full chassis code is lame imo...
lol..well.. my Japanese title read BCNR33.. it doesn't say Skyline anywhere...when i put in request for part at nissan they wanted me to write BNCR33.. sure it is lame

Yeah I read in a mag long time ago that they were making a real-life movie version or Wangan Midnight. Saw few small pics of the Z you posted. Looks great. Blue needs to be darker :D
Had a chance to play new W.Midnight R at Infinity last night, with the S30-A Devil's Z. Pulls away from R34 M-Spec like the GT-R was standing still!
Hey I think GT-R modded to the max can beat 911TT modded to the max...... but of course GT-R has no max yet so who knows :D
Bigoted you are! Lets see Im both a lexus and a nissan driver (SC300 and 240sx respectively)
And I have to disagree with you entirely. In all the car events I been too, Nissan cars seem to outnumber lexus drivers by what seems like 10 to 1.
I have seen 2 lexuses attend at the events, one of them being one I own. I seen many, many nissans at this events, mostly 240sx... which I will admit are my friends, (local car club www.az240sx.org). To quite a few 350z, ussually about 2-4 350z per event, I even seen a 300zx TT, granted he was a newbie driver, And of course i seen a few nissan sentra SE-r. I havent seen maximas or altimas as of yet...
The lexus I have seen compete is my own sc300... and a IS300, thats it.
Random information.. the 2 fastest cars on my club is powered by a sr20det he has run a best of 11.8 seconds. The most powerful 240 in our club has dynoed at 543 rwhp with a KA-T setup. (T66 Turbo) 240sx there have anything from rb25det, rb20det, ka-t, a ca18det and off course the sr20det guys, and even a chevy 350. And someone is working on swapping a ford 302 into his 240, its a very diverse group of 240s..
VSsc400 08-05-04, 06:38 AM okay, here is the opinion.
many non-toyota-lexus drivers say that lexus is just a rebadged toyota. I don't care I love toyotas (i.e. MKIV supra MR2 comes to mind)
many toyota-lexus drivers say that BMW's suck. My friend with a 02 bmw 323i has not had a single thing go wrong. Yes he's got 75k miles on it. No rattles, nothing. Expensive to maintain? maybe but the m-series freaking rock.
i love them nissans, 300zx-tt comes to mind also the datsuns.... love them things
I can go on forever but I won't because every car company has their strengths and weakness.
When a vehicle becomes affordable and it comes with nice power package, the median age of drivers for that vehicle segment drops, younger guys with powerful cars..... not a great combination.
I see many early year model lexus SC coupes that drive like a monkey behind the wheel of a ATV on a dirt track. you see what i mean?
Splitfire: I'd trade both my SC and the RX + cash for a test drive on your R33 for a month lol j/k
thisguy_06 08-05-04, 10:06 AM Funny that this is brought up so quickly...well my friend drives like an @sshole in his Pathfinder and also in his mom's Maxima, and i mean he's a true A-hole with it. Well the other day, he was being such a horrible driver that he flipped his truck and now it's totalled, i wished i had my camera there at the spot because i was in the car with him when he flipped him....oh well, the world may never know why this is, but the maxima does haul plenty of @ss.

See the sig ...
Acura drivers - especially those in the new TL either think that it's about to break (which it probably is) and take off slower than I could pull a wagon (right in front of people) - or they whip it around in traffic like it's a beater ... which ... well *ahem*
Anyway - every car regardless of make has its bad drivers; I'd like to think I'm not one.

C-Train 08-05-04, 11:26 AM my friend has a qx4 (rich b@st@rd) and he's a good driver, although not in his family's accord wagon beater;)

Change Nissan to BMW.
BigVIPness 08-05-04, 01:37 PM I'm shocked these 2 names havn't come up:
Newest model Impala's and Grand am's
Maybe its just because I live in ///Minnesota (we have no exotic dealerships so everyone buy's M5's and a few M3's) but there are so many punk mother ****ers tearing around like they are transporting a kidney. I get ****ty looks from grand am and impala owners (%99 of the time its punk white kids in there late teens early 20's) all the time.
The only people that come to mind that are bad enough drivers to endanger other people when they drive (like cut people off without signaling, driving on shoulder to pass) it was so bad I thought it was from the same 2 people but I remembered the first 3 letters of there plate I realized its much more people then i though.
The bad drivers I have noticed are sorted by vehicle type rather than make. Minivan drivers are frequently oblivious and are usually the ones driving at a ridiculously slow speed or driving with the blinker on or making vague and accidental lane changes. SUV drivers are worse. They either do the super slow, clueless deal as described above or they drive like maniacs. The most frequent SUV moves around here are the super slow start with continuous acceleration (if the road is long enough, they will slowly accelerate from 0 to 90 before romping hard on the brakes for a stop sign that was well-advertised half a mile in advance), the panic braking and/or riding the brakes and the eratic lane changes with no signal. I constantly hear people say they feel safer in an SUV, but I'm not sure these people are really even safe in a library.
lex400sc 08-05-04, 02:48 PM Holy old ass thread!! :batman:
CK6Speed 08-05-04, 04:00 PM I'm sure it is location dependent. Depending on what part of the state I'm driving it could be BMW or Mercedes, Mini Vans or SUV, or pick up trucks. Actaully, I think stupid drivers drive anything they can get their hands on. I also see a lot of stupid Lexus drivers so no manufacture is immune from stupid drivers.

Lex, you are almost right. Bimmer jocks are the runner-ups (#2). Without question....and I've been driving over 30 years........the Mustang V8 jocks take the cake....hands down. GT's, Mach 1's, Cobras, SVT's, Roush'es...the Mustang V8 guys are THE most dangerous drivers I have ever seen....at least here in the D.C. area. Now, of course, not ALL Mustang drivers are wild and dangerous, but a very high percentage of them ARE. They have caused more fatal accidents in this area than any other single type of vehicle. Interestingly, as a whole, the archrival Camaro and Firebird jocks seem to show a little more sense on the road.
:driving:
Now...as for Nissans being the prime fodder for driving granny-style and holding everybody up in the left lane, forgetting to signal, etc.......dunno:uh: Where I live here, this seems to be mostly either people looking for addresses or the senior citizens in their LeSabres, Grand Marquis'es, and DeVilles.:boring:
SoCalSC4 08-06-04, 10:03 AM Out here it's typically Ford Ranger drivers (especially construction workers and punk dudes with stupid pre-runner trucks) and SUV owners...
After all, the big SUV people don't have time to pay attention- they're busy on the phone. 9 times out of 10 when I see a big SUV on my daily commute, there is ONE PERSON in the truck. Owner's defend these giant rigs with "But they;re such practical vehicles!"
Have fun putting kids through college (Harvard kid, not on scholarship: "my dad owns a gas station")! Enjoy that...
I have a 97 Maxima SE and I certainly don't drive in the manner you guys are describing. My wife also drives the Max (it's really her car) and she is an awesome driver. She is not the timid slow driver that a lot of females are (my apologies to any females reading this - no offense intended) .
I have not noticed this erratic behaviour to any one car model either.............
