Say I want to convert a few second clip of an avi or mpg to an animated gif, like biggie27's in his sig

How would I do it?

this i can't really help you with. If your playing the clip on your computer you can do 2 things:
1. Hit "PRINT SCREEN" button on your keyboard (while clip is playing) then paste it to photoshop and crop around the picture till you get it around the area you want. (Hard to explain)
2. I would think your Avi/MPG player may have a "copy" under edit if you pause the clip. Not too sure about this one though.
That's the only way I know of exporting pics from a video.

use movie editing software to capture clips, then use ANImagic to make them into a GIF.

I came up with this idea 2 nights ago, and have been working on the animation forever :D

finally done with it and you do something similar the same day!

After getting the images just go back
to image ready and create an animated
GIF. But say I said before OPPS you have
to know how to use those programs.
