okay, I am not much for typing tutorials, thats up to Futuregs, but i'll give it a go.

first you wanna trace out the exact outline of the car using the polygon lasso tool, zoom in real close to do this.Also after you have the outline come back and hold down ALT and cutout around the windows and lights etc,anything you dont want to have the color changed.Dont deselect yet.

now go and make a new blank layer and go and select the gradient tool, this is where you really need to experiment.Pick the Violet Orange gradient and drag this through your selection.
Now go and experiment with the different blending modes.Its really a combination of what the actual color of the car is and the type of blending mode you choose, just experiment with it.I dont know if that explains it good enough, so if you get lost just PM me.
