View Full Version : What's the Ugliest Car Ever Built?

Not the riciest, or the worst mods, or the most trashed - but the ugliest, right from the factory?

Find a pic of your candidate for Ugliest Ever, and post it here!

Remembering that one man's sweathog is another man's dream, you will undoubtedly offend *somebody* with your post - but of course, that's the whole idea - -

My candidate from the current crop:

The Pontiac Aztek

LOL

it's definitely not the best looking Lexus for some people, but it's also definitely not the ugliest car ever built.

My vote goes to Aztek. Looks like it was a nicely designed car/van on the blueprint, then they crumbled it up and make it go into production all crumbled.

The Buick Rendezvous is even more hideous. Sheesh, I know all these families who are going out and buying them because they are "Cheap" and luxurious. Yes, they are quit comfortable, but for god sakes... its like driving a ****in tent on wheels.

Line up every American made automobile from 1971 to 1983.

7 out of 10 of them could qualify, particularly with the advent of the 5mph bumper.

In this illustration, GM was so enamoured with the stylish boat-tail of the '71 Riviera, that 2 years later, they moved it to the front of the '73 Grand Am.

Aztec and Rendezvous get my votes for current cars, that Isuzu is damn ugly too.

I agree that the SC430 looks much nicer with some new wheels.

I saw one of those Monte Carlo's that I really liked, dark green with a nice set of 18's. Probably changed my mind on that car.

08-13-02, 10:24 AM
Not so much ugly on the outside as it is on the inside. It's okay for an F-350 work truck, but not an oversized SUV. But, hey, did you hear...Ford will be discontinuing this big bastard. Sales are down, and it's just too darn big. They should not have tried to makes it bigger than the suburban, just better.

Toog4me

The mountaneer isnt so bad. The Aztek is disgusting, and the point of the Excursion was not to look good, but to haul good, and it does just that.

LexRX
08-13-02, 05:44 PM
The Excursion may haul, but not good enough to keep sales up. Waive bye-bye to Ford's monster. I doubt Ford's engineer's wanted the Excursion to look plain and/or ugly, but it's cheaper to share the F250/350's dash.

So that's what they did. A 40+k SUV for soccer moms to have a work truck dash and poor suspension characteristics. But, you can have a diesel to carry the kids to school in!

Iirregardless, styling is completely subjective and those are my meager opinions ;)

I respect your opinion, but I hope it is not because of sales. People have said it before and it is entriely true. Just because a car does not sell does not mean its no good.

yeah!! those were the mustang pics i was talking about. a lotta foreign cars are ugly, maybe its becuse we r not used to them and what not. this might upset people but i dont like the infiniti j30 either, although there are many cars that are to the "n"th degree uglier. i just saw one so i nominated it.
btw doesnt the black or silver avalanche use less plastic than the other colors? i forgot which color...i think it uses a chrome bumper. correct me if im wrong please

LexRX
08-13-02, 06:09 PM
Toog4me, I just like to pick on the Excursion. It really doesn't look that bad on the outside. It's just that Ford tried to out-do GM. GM held the market on the full-size SUV's with the Suburban and it seemed that Ford tried to do it up bigger, but it didn't come out better. The Suburban, IMO, is just a better vehicle.

As for the Avalanche, I thought that think was hideous at first, but it has grown on me. Put some 20's on it and it's not so bad...not practical, but looks better. Also GM has models out in showrooms now that don't have all that body cladding. IMO it looks much MUCH better painted. On second thought, it may just be the dealer in my area having the cladding painted. Either way, it's coming from the factory sooner or later. You can thank Bob Lutz for that...or not. But he's the reason.

LexRX
08-13-02, 06:21 PM
Here is an example of (1) painted cladding and (2) larger wheels. GM's full-size trucks have such large fender wells that they are better suited, at least visually, for larger wheels and tires.

The suburban is by far a nicer and better looking car than the Excursion. Can you say 10 MPG? (in the excursion)

Funk Master Flex has a nice ass Excursion and Bhusta Rhymes also had a nice one in the Mountain Dew commercial.

The thing, for me, that really took the work "class" out of the new Thunderbird was looking through the grill on the front bumper. Go check one out. You can see the foam behind the bumper through the grill...very poor desing IMO.

It seems like to me that automakers may be looking at the reason why people prefer the ride height and roominess of SUV's and Minivans and are trying to replicate that in their cars.

BTW, i DO LIKE this Visage Camry kit:

I read somewhere that the reason these cars are so ugly is because of the fact that they are love it or hate it designs.... the toyota camrys and honda accords sell, and everyone has one.... people want to be different, so they find one of these cars that appeals to them (yes some people like them, i like the 745 now, didnt use to... especially the facelift that is coming out next year) and they buy these cars. some people actually like the look of the aztek, although most dont...

response to the new Q45, it looks like it has downsyndrome, sorry if that offends anyone....

any mitsubishi that from far away and at first glance, i mistake for a bmw (diamante)
