View Full Version : What Brand of Fuel For Your Lexus?
Daddy-O 10-26-02, 11:40 PM I generally burn Chevron. Simply because it's the easiest
gas station for me to get in and out of at home. It used
to be an Exxon station and I used to burn Exxon.
MarvinCNG 10-27-02, 01:40 AM I use Chevron wherever possible in all vehicles.
I used to work on their computerized distribution sysyems, and discovered that most gas is essentially the same, and is even distributed and delivered by the same wholesalers (called 'Jobbers'), often in the same truck to different branded stations.
However, the additive in Chevron (Techron) is proprietary, and is reputed to do a good job of removing deposits on fuel-injector nozzles.
I use Conoco, Chevron, BP/Amoco predominantly. Whichever is more convenient - mostly Conoco. I use Kroger gas if I am already in the area. It's usually about 9 cents cheaper than everyone else and that's before the 3 cents off for a Kroger Plus member.
BTW, I'm really not a big fan of the Kroger Plus program - and we have about 8 Krogers in Macon, GA
i'm using SAM'S CLUB gas. it's like .10 cheaper than anywhere in the dallas area.
StreetLexus 10-28-02, 12:54 AM Before my Lexus purchase I had a Chevrolet 1996 LT1 6-Speed Z-28. I ran nothing but Chevron 93 Octane and every once in awhile I would run a treatment of Techron additive. At 110,000 miles I got my injectors cleaned by a Chevy dealership, and much to my surprise they didn't need cleaning! The tech that did the work was amazed and said that was the first time he recalled a car with that high of mileage be that clean. I had only had them cleaned once prior. I have a friend in the oil business that swears by Chevron Techron and I listened because he was so serious about it.
I am not sorry that I listened to him, and I only run Chevron 93.
Nobody goes to Hess? I thought they were all the same but after reading the chevron stuff I think I'll start filling up the SC and RX there. Hess here is much cheaper than anyother gas station and chevron is the most expensive but I guess I should start going to chevron for their techron stuff. :D
MrSypher 11-05-02, 01:06 PM Sunoco is what I put in my tanks... 93 in the RX and 94 in the GS...
MrSypher 11-05-02, 01:09 PM Dada, howcome everytime I go to vote is says, "the action I attemped could not be preformed"?? Everytime......
Handogen 11-05-02, 03:08 PM mrsypher, I just voted and it worked fine. It may be something with your browser.. try deleting your cookies, history, etc, closing your browser, and opening it back up. Then try logging back in again and voting.
Hando
I wish they had 94 octane around here
leolexus 11-22-02, 03:12 PM I have a friend that works in the buying and selling of gasoline. He tells me that all gas is the same regardless of brand prior to the additives. The additives is what a company puts into the gasoline to brand it as their own and to market the product to the consumer. It shouldn't matter on the gasoline brand because it is an industry practice to buy and sell the gasoline they refine to each other.
Lexmexico 12-02-02, 02:40 PM I may be one of the fewer RX owners who has no choice. In this case, Pemex, since it is the only type of gas sold in Mexico. For all those traveling across the border, use only 93 octane, and take some Techron. The 87 octane is horrible. The main problem is that the majority of stations do not use a detergent in their tanks.
Lvangundy 12-17-02, 01:34 PM There's a 110 octane place off 7th street in Santa Monica down the hill. By the palisades almost.
I think it's like $5 a gallon.
Lexmexico 12-17-02, 02:01 PM I remember in the days before Lexus when Texaco had 104 octane. Real pristine stuff.
Overclocker 01-28-03, 12:27 PM I get Speedway on crazy Tuesdays because premium is the same price as regular.
I'd use Chevron, but we don't have those around here. During the summer a Shell station around work had the premium at regular price deal too, but they stopped so I stopped going to them.

anonymous 02-02-03, 06:06 PM wow I don't think I've ever seen any deals on gas here.
I'm an advocate for either:
* BP Ultimate 98RON
* Shell Optimax 98RON
Dunno if you got the same names for your premium pump gas over there in the USA, but yeah, either BP or Shell's finest :D I use it in both my Soarer and my Tarago van (Previa), and I don't use anything else.
GS300Rich 06-21-03, 04:48 PM chevron all the way. Sometimes if I cant find one I will go with Mobil, but dont like to
Fuel is fuel, I personally don't care where I buy it as long as I'm not getting completely ripped off.
VSsc400 07-07-03, 01:10 PM BP amoco... reputable... and there happens to be this amoco station that sells 3-5cents less than others....(most of the time)
LexDiamond 07-16-03, 03:38 PM I prefer Sunoco Ultra 94 but I usually get Mobil or Gulf since its right near my gf's house and its 15 cents less a gallon then alot of places..how is that for cheap! I pay $1.38 regular $1.58 93 $1.73 Ultra 94 (Sunoco)

I use to work for Mobil. Very consistent gas. Better then most brands thats a fact not an opinion.
Sunoco is a lil better cause it has extra detergent but most cars dont need it.
Nevertheless the tanker guys told me from Sunoco and Mobil that they all get there gas at the same price the only difference is if u go to a small "mom and pop" style gas station they like to sneak the hose in the gas tanks at night. :eek2: I avoid those places like mad!
SC400TT 08-11-03, 12:01 AM Wish I could find higher than 93 Octane Premium in O-town. No luck. My fav is Chevron because of the Techron, next is Amoco. I only use premium 93 Octance.
Altstadt:D
mmcustom 08-28-03, 10:26 PM cheapest 93 octane I can find in town
i use the highest octance i can find at the cheapest price...usually walmart brand or enmark they are usually 5 to 7 cts cheaper than all other brands......since i also live in Macon,Ga.....he is right about the over saturation of Krogers around here.....
EmeraldLexuSC3 09-26-03, 01:35 PM I get my Gas at Costco, it's usually $0.20 cheaper per gallon.
Any brand that's cheap(but good quality:D )
Technics 10-23-03, 05:03 AM Mobil 1 regularly
mmarshall 11-03-03, 11:35 AM Chevron, Amoco, and Mobil are all good fuels, with good detergent packages. Use whichever is cheapest or most convienent. The main thing is to stay away from cut-rate stations......you get what you pay for, and your injectors will get clogged up.
91 Chevron plus Octane booster !! (fill up the tank every week)
D2-AUTOSPORT 12-08-03, 10:21 PM Hess/ ExxonMobile/Shell
You know, all the guys that MERGE with other gas companies!! Always 93 octane!!
Gojirra99 12-25-03, 09:25 AM PetroCanada Superclean (94 Octane), & occasionally Shell (92 Octane)
bluelex 01-15-04, 02:12 PM i usually hit mobile and thier 93 but even if i'm on the road i use 93 or higher is its there.. nothing under...
I use Shell 80% of the time, but on every fifth fill-up I use Sunoco 95. I find that my SC300 loves this. BTW .... BP makes my car run funny.
chicagoblknazn 03-15-04, 09:52 AM I try to get to the BP in Indy but if not, it's usually the Speedway near my folks crib.
i use d cheapest brand name in town cuz my V8 eats too much of this gas!!!!!!!!
mmarshall 05-25-04, 12:24 PM Usually Chevron...because of the Techroline detergent package. So many oil companies have merged with each other lately that in many cases you don't really KNOW what you're putting in your tank. Even Mobil and Amoco, two former excellent gasolines, have been bought out by other firms.....with the resulting guesswork.

If you consistantly use El Cheapo brands you may be plugging up your injectors with gum and carbon.
Then you have to buy something like BG44K or Gumout and dump it in your fuel system...which negates the savings.
I used to use only Shell because I actually did notice a slight increase in mileage with it. However, the car's idle was a bit scary at times. I've since gotten rid of the car and judging from the symptoms it had before I unloaded it I'm almost positive the fuel pump was toast. Bad gas or not, I've gone back to Chevron with my Civic. With the Civic I've only used 87 thus far. Compression is relatively low and Honda claimed 87 would be fine, but the engine does run a little rough. Not sure if it's the gas or the wizards at Honda's Ohio plant.... I miss my Toyota.:(
THE_CEO 07-06-04, 09:20 PM I get 93+ octane always.....mobil usually...if i need gas i grab it from anywhere as long as they have 93+
CEO
Fisher503 07-13-04, 01:20 PM Sunoco 94 octane since day one. :driving:
PAPASMURF 07-15-04, 02:47 PM Shell seems to do better (maybe it's my imagination) but if I can't get that then it's Exxon.
MRLEXUS 07-26-04, 12:22 AM shell's new "V-POWER" gas is great i can really feel power back in my car
LexLuder 09-22-04, 10:08 PM shell or esso 95 octane and she flies..
Lexusfreak 12-07-04, 03:15 PM Sunoco Ultra 94 & nothing else :D
phunkyGS 02-25-05, 12:11 AM BP or Shell only for my baby.
superpats 03-04-05, 12:00 PM V-power 24/7
got_trd 03-25-05, 02:07 PM I usually go to Mobil, BP or sometimes Texaco
Jimbo2828 04-08-05, 02:01 AM i use 76 propower but i'm thinking about using costco gas now. i drive 50 miles everyday to school and work.
blacksc400 04-27-05, 06:19 PM mobil or Texaco only!
aznxguy714 06-13-05, 08:16 PM isn't 76 now a part of conoco and phillips 66 and isn't texaco part of chevron. i am in cali by they way. so is shell merged with anyone n what about mobil????? anyways i use chevron but was just curious about what companies are together.
Its Usually 76 when i get the chance too, but if the price is right Shell will do the trick.
I use QT gas all day long.
Though, one of my friend's works at an airport and has been filling his RX with avgas. Man that stuff smells awesome. Nothing like a good leaded gas.
I use Sam's Club now also. Use to Mobil, the Speedpass doesn't see much action lately.
mink92890 07-13-05, 03:32 PM How is QuikTrip is it the cheapest in my area? Is it good fuel. I use 93 Octave
And costco and kroger fuel
How good are their fuels?
Its about time i find out :)
Mink92890
RiverRat 07-13-05, 07:13 PM Exxon/Mobile for me....But i love filling up with 94 Shell if given the chance to blow money! (not too many shell stations around here)
cheungsta 08-04-05, 12:27 PM 91 Chevron for my baby...unless nothing's around...then I'll go to Shell
Man there are some gas stations listed that I've never heard of.. Crazy. Chevron for me..
nnnickkk 10-31-05, 12:31 PM shell or chevron.
sha4000 10-31-05, 02:30 PM i usually get bp but down in ga. the racetrac is usually the cheapest along with quiktrip
pilip99 11-15-05, 11:11 PM using mainly Mobil and 76 gas, i have yet to try 100 octane in my car :D
AustinGS4 11-23-05, 06:30 PM will always use premium gas and I use Exxon because for every gallon we purchase a penny goes into my kids college fund.
TTEHarrier 01-29-06, 04:53 PM I use Shell V-Power premium gasoline because every gallon I pumped go to getting premium deluxe car washes and waxes.
AristoMade 02-09-06, 03:49 PM chevron with that computerized techron haha no just chevron
Lexwang07 03-06-06, 02:05 PM I had an Chevron credit card, and save 10 cents each time filled up gases!
Lexusfreak 03-09-06, 04:58 AM Sunoco Ultra 94 offers by far the best fuel economy for me.
Edison_Chen 04-17-06, 11:24 PM Chevron 94
OutlawTita 05-17-06, 04:11 PM I use the cheapest premium gas I can find (usually Costco) and add 1 oz of Fuel Power 60 per 5 gallons of gas. Works like a charm for my GS400 averaging 21 mpg in city driving.
samster 05-24-06, 12:00 AM this topic is so regional lols it seems like everyone down souths choice is chevron and everyone in the north east is BP amoco or sunoco
my choices use to be sunoco utra 94 and then they just dont got 94 here in nyc no mores
and then its always either 93 from sunoco or 93 from BP and nows i find that thru out Nj not many places got utra 94 either~!!! guys if anyone knows where i can get 94 in nyc let a brother know lolz and if anywhere close in jerzee LMK~! thankss always as high octane as i get for any car~ from the Supra to the Lex to the minivan~ lols 105 from 76 make anycar qwick lolz :D
Use the premium at Sam's Club.
SoCal_VIP 06-30-06, 01:08 AM 76 or Chevron
LexBall 06-30-06, 10:36 PM ima shell man!
HarrierAWD 07-06-06, 01:21 AM BP used to be my favorite because of the rebate thing, but they have since pulled out of Colorado.
So I got this 5% gas rebate credit card that works everywhere, so I go by price now. My current favorite is Citgo at a 7Eleven.
I used to put in regular (85), but I went back to mid-grade (87.) It appears that the VVT-i does not kick in with 85. I get slight more mid-range power with 87. Gas mileage is the same though.
i use the cheapest gas i can get on any given day.
Rockefelle 10-21-07, 05:35 PM I only use Chevron
BippuPxr 11-16-07, 01:13 AM Yahh shell for me
SHERRI06 12-17-07, 05:51 PM Shell. V-Power is the poo :)
Solo_D33A 03-24-08, 10:23 AM Chevron when I get back to BC, Shell anywhere else.
djyoshi626 11-07-08, 02:19 AM Shell or Chevron. I do not know if its the same for you SC owners, but I have noticed that with Chevron, the car accelerates faster, this could be in my head but I don't think so. Chevron burns faster, usually on a full tank of gas I get somewhere between 320-360 miles on Shell and have gotten to about 300-310 on Chevron. This is not hitting emergency tank yet, but the needle is on "E". Anyone else notice this?
702SC400 11-14-08, 02:22 PM BP for right now as I am looking at converting my SC400 to E85.
