View Full Version : Commuting in Your Lexus
Daddy-O 01-11-03, 08:22 PM How far do you travel, round-trip each day?
Working from home is great. Conference calls, Netmeeting and online Powerpoint slide-shows have all contributed to less miles on my Lexus.
edit - 07/2003 - New job...Now I drive 3.5 miles each way to work. Still works for me!
BlvdKing 01-12-03, 12:06 AM I travel approx. 40 miles per day. In Portland that is a fairly far commute. I wish I would of bought a house closer to work but I hate the neighborhoods around it. When I buy my next house I will again buy approx. the same distance in a different direction.
I had the good fortune of starting a successful company that I managed to sell in 2000 (yep, one of those). In a sincere effort to make an employee-friendly workplace, we located near mass-transit -- and next to a bird sanctuary!
Gorgeous location! Especially if you bike or bus to work.
Do you have any idea what half a dozen pairs of nesting Great Blue Herons do to cars?
When I bought the Lexus, the first rule was not to drive it to work...
I don't drive the Lexus that much, however, if I had to pick any car to be stuck in traffic in, I would definately pick a Lexus :D.
Less than ten miles a day to work.
mooretorque 01-12-03, 03:53 PM At one point, it was 137 miles round trip, door to door, 4 days/wk. That racked 'em up pretty fast. Fortunately, these days it's down to 1/10th that amount.
But there was that 8 mile long, nearly zero travel straightaway............the SC got light starting at 135...........I miss that part of the drive.
No miles, ever. I am not driving that ls400 the way it is stock until I have money for parts it's the 7 train for me.
MrSypher 01-12-03, 11:26 PM Nothing really serious for me... Just like 10 miles each way....
VSsc400 01-12-03, 11:36 PM 81.6 miles round trip.
MrSypher 01-12-03, 11:39 PM That's all???
steviej 01-13-03, 12:21 AM It's a 15 mile ride to a high speed cat. A 25 minute 35 knot boat ride to Boston. Last is a 1 mile walk to the hospital.
Only on weekends do I dare venture my baby into the depths of the city renouned for its unusually large potholes (aka The BigDig) and numerous orange parking tickets.

stylingal 01-16-03, 02:17 AM geez, i have 65,000 miles on my 2000 RX300! I got the car while finishing up at UCSD and drove A LOT! With the work commute, it's really raising the mileage on the car...
SandRock 01-19-03, 11:44 PM 16 miles round trip. The miles on my car are so low I dont need brakes.
fvellani 02-14-03, 07:02 PM my dads is about like 10 km round trip from our house to his office, and he doesnt really take the Lex anywhere (he doesnt get out much ;) ), so the miles are pretty low...we put around 14000km in a year
Schtdygirl 02-28-03, 01:23 PM I just bought a 2001 LS430 and as much as I would love to drive it daily; I will continue to rack up miles on my Camry that is coming up on 130K!
About 75 miles round trip. I tend to work shifted hours so traffic is light when I drive. Just love being in the car, makes the drive not so long.
1SICKLEX 04-27-03, 12:20 AM I went from 42.3 miles one way to 7.7 miles one way to work. I am so much less stressed cause of it.
Atlanta has a terrible mass transit plan.:thumbdn:
ebruce2 06-12-03, 07:52 PM about 15 miles round trip.....I usually take my "beater" (95 Nissan 200SX) to work to save wear-and-tear on the Sexy Lexy :D
To college and back round trip, it'd be around 20kms ~ 25kms 4 days a week (or about 12~15mls every 4 days)... around 48~60mls a week to get to college and back.
To work it takes me about 5 mins to drive, or 40 mins to walk so I think I'd rather drive, but the trip is turned into a 15km trip lol (1km to work from home, then roam around then come home lol), so about 45kms from home to work each week lol :)
All up I do around 145kms (76~88mls) a week, not including my cruising on the weekends.
GS300Rich 06-21-03, 04:40 PM about 40 miles round trip but love every minute of it.
boredguy77 10-05-03, 03:25 PM I couldn`t stand anything over about 60
20 miles for me, and ohhh what a comfortable 20 it is. :D
chicagoblknazn 03-15-04, 09:55 AM I live a block from the train station that drops me off 2 blocks from work in 50 minutes. BUT, I drive to work everyday and pay $12 per day because I HATE being away from my car. I'm not obsessed!!!!:o
Wald GS 03-15-04, 11:20 PM i commute about 20 mile a day.
i barely use my lexus. It gets to sleep in the garage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (except when going to vegas. lol)
THE_CEO 07-06-04, 09:30 PM my typical drive to work and back is about 50 miles..to the gym another 10( there and back)...if i have clients to visit or appointments...then i can be hundreds of miles a day (2-3 hours at least once a week).

lexusondubs 07-15-04, 04:35 PM as less as possible trying to keep the mileage down
silkiechic 07-16-04, 09:39 AM mine goes 40 miles round trip, once on sunday to take me to school and once on friday to bring me home :) love that car: )
flipside909 07-24-04, 11:47 AM I'm near 28k on my 10 month old 2004 IS300. Daily commutes and the 5 trips to NorCal add up. :D
PAPASMURF 09-10-04, 02:58 PM I roll about 60 miles a day. 25 or so to and from work and another 5 or so to the gym and back.
I barely drive my GS...she just sleeps in the garage...I average like 50 miles a month...lol and that's pushing it...specially now that I will be getting ready to sell it...I don't even thing about takin her out on the road...wanna keep the miles low...

Oh yeah, my daily commute has dropped significantly since I've changed course and campus... now it's more like 15km round trip... but the 7 or 8kms for the first round trip takes about 20~30mins each day... damn I hate rush hour traffic :thumbdn:

1 mile each way!! I take the train to the city and I only live 1 mile from the station.
What I don't understand is all the people that don't drive thier cars in order to keep the mileage down :uh:
I'm not trying to hate on anyone or bad mouth them but I am a firm believer of driving my cars.

damn 1 mile! "lucky!" *napoleon dynamite*
well if you live in CA then you understand.... gas over here cost about a left leg and right nut just for one gallon and having Lexus's doesn't help either... always gotta pump high grade! :egads:

True. I didn't consider the "cost of gas" factor.
Oh, glad to see another ND fan!!! "I'll do whatever I wanna do! Gosh!"

alsilverbullet 05-26-05, 08:09 PM My GS400 is a garage queen. I drive it on the weekends sometimes. I average about 5K a year if so. My Supra Turbo is my daily beater
flipside909 05-27-05, 10:20 AM Currently on the ODO: 55,035 on my 20 month old 2004 IS300 and still running smooth & strong. :D
128 miles roundtrip getting 21mpg in a 99 GS400. fill up 3 times a week
42 miles in each direction. 84 miles a day times 5 days a week. whats the point of buying a car if you arent going to put miles on it anyway. The car loses value anyways right??? :)
128 miles roundtrip getting 21mpg in a 99 GS400. fill up 3 times a week
:agree: sometimes i wish i got a little more than that!
jwaters 06-15-05, 09:11 AM I'm lucky I guess, my commute is only 4 miles each way. It's close enough that I usually go home for lunch, so that adds another 8 miles for a total of 16 miles, 5 days a week. At my old house I used to drive about 12 miles each way which is a fairly long distance for a city the size of Reno.
128 miles roundtrip getting 21mpg in a 99 GS400. fill up 3 times a week
dude, that's horrible, I do 200km round trip a day, or 124miles a day, I only need to fill up about every 3 days, I can easily get 600km to the tank just about when light goes on which ends up to be around 60L.
I got the car as a daily driver, so I have no problem racking up the mileage, do plan to keep it forever thou......... along my Volvo, which has about 89k miles on the odo, not bad for a 91 eh.
Krupski2 08-14-05, 09:19 PM I want to keep this car as long as I can....so I am glad my commute is very short.
:)
pilip99 11-15-05, 08:24 PM I'm located at UCI, I pretty much use it to drive to the gym and back not too far, and just go home on the weekends which is like 40 miles one way or so
PhilipMSPT 11-15-05, 11:03 PM Commute is 30 miles each way to my main office through LA traffic, plus another 10 miles each way for a satellite office with no traffic. 80 miles total per day.
Lexus in inclement weather. Travel time 1 hr 20 min each way. XM radio helps significantly.
Motorcycle in fair weather. Travel time 35 min each way. Only been hit by car once. Please don't cross double yellow lines into carpool lanes. Thanks.
To and from the airport for me.... Maybe 20min...
soarer213 11-22-05, 11:39 AM I car pool with my wife. And I take my 91 Accord ex coupe. No commuting traffic woes for my Lexi here :D
200 miles a week coupled with 15mpg is bad for me and my wallet.
Stupid car...
50 miles round trip getting about 21mpg about 35min or less round trip no traffic
RiverRat 11-23-05, 09:32 AM 200 miles a week coupled with 15mpg is bad for me and my wallet.
Stupid car...
:agree: I put 40 miles a day, 5 days a week. I hate it because I only get about 300 miles per tank, and I'm filling up EVERY week :(. It is all highway driving, but certain days I get caught in rush hour and the commute takes me an hour and 15 minutes, when it should only take 25 minutes. Yeah, the traffic is that bad.
AustinGS4 11-23-05, 06:05 PM I live exactly 10 miles from my office but I am in sales and have to drive my car everywhere I go all day long and every day. 20,000 miles a year. It is sad to put that many miles on my baby but I take good care of her and she makes me happy.
TripleL 03-11-06, 01:31 PM Just going to work and back is 20 miles a day for me.......
daydr3am 12-08-06, 08:35 AM My school is about a mile from my home and work is about 2-3 miles away from home as well. :D
I used to commute 80 miles a day in my IS300, for 3 years.
The IS300 ended up with 76k miles, mostly highway, and I developed a bad back, yes I blamed it on the driver seat which I dont really like..
Now I drive 30 miles a day in my GS400. My back feels much better.
50 mile round trip. It sucks... And I hate traffic. But the car and XM does make it a lot better!
projectdna 04-10-08, 03:52 PM when i bought my is350 it used to be 40 miles round-trip.
then i got a new job, and it went up to 60 miles round-trip.
then i got another new job - the one i'm at right now - and now my commute has shortened to less than 20 miles round trip.
(but that's just to the metrolink station so i can travel 30+ miles each way to my new job...)
about 70 miles round-trip
but been taking metrolink 2x-3x/week in the last few months
i need a beat up car....
