Are they still number one?
Is this as good as it gets?
Do you feel they are growing a bit complacent?
Lexus quality/service sliding downhill?

Vehicle quality still superb, dealer experience seems to be deteriorating as a result of over-zealous pursuit of profit on the Service side (not a new observation, however, and variable from dealer to dealer).

In terms of long haul quality, of course 10!
But they don't make the the jzz3x chassis cars anyomore - classic SC is gone - minus 1. The SC430 just doesn't do it for me.
edit: remove SUV remark;) same as ES
IS, LS, GS - still good. I'd buy any of them.
The ES ehh not my cup o tea.

So they get a resounding 9. Just my impression. If they keep the inline 6, manual tranny and do more performance developement - I would consider nothing less than another Lexus in the future.;)

If they come out with a performance version of the GS (somehing like what BMW has as the M5), in AWD, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Just imagine - 2004 GS500 AWD .......................

A performance version with lowered and stiffer springs/shocks, fat tire setup, big brake etc. etc. All the upgrades we are doing now, straight from the factory - WOW. My dream come true

I give Lexus an 8 for quality and performance.

Are they still number one?

- i believe so.... according to consumer reports for 8 years straight.

Is this as good as it gets?

- probably not always room for inprovement and advances

Do you feel they are growing a bit complacent?

-eh

Lexus quality/service sliding downhill?

- yes in some aspects for service but quality no

Yeah, dealer is great, ya'll are great, car is great. My car is so good, I've literally sold Lexus cars to people around me. I should seriously get money from Lexus.

Very impressed with the Lexus. Always room for improvements and refinements. Service is excellent, albeit a bit pricey. Will definately buy lexus in the future.

Basically a Mercedes for less if you ask me! I love Lexus. I'm still hooked on older es300's 92-01 but the new 02 styling has me sick (PUKE)....It's the first time I can say "I do not like the ES300"

If I were to buy new, I would go with a GS430 since I hate the crappy plastic IS interior. It so UNLIKE Lexus.
I had a chance to drive one back in 2000 and was disappointed in the interior but otherwise very impressed with handling and performance. I drove a 2002 last year and was impressed but I felt the cabin was very tiny but pretty nimble on the corners! Don't ask me how I know :p

Lexus cars are a 9 or 10. Lexus SUV's specifically the GX get a 5. They totally cluster *****ed the GX. The only Lemon in the bunch.

I had a benz. It was in the shop every other month. In the end, every month. I met many people at the service dept. We became friendly there. Every model Benz was represented there. I noticed the very rich don't care how many times they have to go to the service dept, they want a benz. I couldn't take it anymore. Yes, I've had my Lexus cars in the shop, once or twice. I had 2 Infiniti's. Nice but terrible transmissions and very poor resale value. I had 2 Camaro's. Crap, crap and more crap. I won't continue with all the cars I've had. Lexus is the best brand I have owned.
I give it a 9. Nothing on Earth is perfect.

Very satisfied here with my GS, of course it is only my 1st. But I give Lexus a 9 overall. There is always room for improvement.

Um, anyone else have their dealer try to do a lot of extra (unnecessary) work on their car? Every time I take the car in for standard stuff they tell me I need to spend $300+ (for an oil change, basically). I'm now going to Toyota for the same service at much less $$$.

Anyone else have their dealer lie to them about getting navigation DVD updates?

How about being told that the is no warranty on the tires.

Ever hear that the car was out of alignment and then see the report from the machine that showed it was well within specs? Oh yeah, and they still charged for the allignment!?!?!

Come on, Lexus is on better than any other dealer (maybe worse than some). If youve only had good experiences then you are lucky. Just try calling the 800 number and getting a straight answer from one of their customer care specialists (their term; they have yet to prove to me that they care about anything execpt getting off the phone).

Enjoy your cars... The car is great. The dealers are suspect and the company does not deserve the high ratings they enjoyed in the past.

My nickel...

There have been times the customer care rep recommended things I didn't need, they even got me once. They recommended cleaning carbon from the throttle bodies (I think) and replace the brake fluid in the tank and lines. I went for it. Don't know why. I've never done anything like this on any previous car. What bothered me is I overheard them later saying I saved them from a negative bottom line for the day. Maybe service reps have to generate a certain amount of revenue per day. Tell you why I didn't cause a fuss. I'm still ahead. The dealership has done a lot for me over the years. I've gotten my front bumper painted free 3 times. Free plug wires. Valve cover gasket replacement was half price. Sway bar bushings free. I get 25% off every part I buy because I made friends with the parts guys. There's lots more. I can't complain. Lexus rocks.

I am on my second Lexus, and I truly love these vehicles. While they are not perfect (other than Beyonce, what is? :)), they are a great mix of all around perforance, comfort, reliablity and value.

I intend to have a Lexus vehicle of some sort in my possesion from here on out.

Been to just about every dealership cus my parents switch cars very frequently and I always have to remind them about the service and stuff. And I have never been treated better at a Lexus dealership, this includes BMW and Mercedes which I think has one of the worst services ever.

Ehh...it's ok. j/k :p

Seriously, having just bought an STI and driving it for 2 weeks straight, I already miss the quality and comfort of my GS400. We all know the STIs are rough, loud, FAST, etc...but man I needed a break so I took the GS400 out again last weekend. Wow! I really do appreciate the Lexus feeling. Even though my Lex is 5 years old, it still gets the garage spot while the STI sits out on the driveway.

Well...you guys sure brought THIS one back from the dead didn't you?...it's a two-and-one-half-year-old thread.

Anyhow, you are correct that an STi is less refined and more coarse than a GS, but quality-wise there is not that much difference. Both are well-above-average in reliability, although some WRX's and STi's have had premature clutch problems from hard use. And while the STi's low-profile high-performance tires are generally not good in the wet or snow, the AWD in general does give it an advantage over the GS400 in slippery conditions. And it is hard to beat the Subaru AWD systems...they are the best AWD systems in the buisness in the $30,000 and under class, and out of the 5 different Subaru systems, the STi's with the driver-controlled torque split is perhaps the best one of all.

True, the Acura RL's new AWD system with the SH (Super-Handling) left-right torque split is more sophisticated than even the Subie's, but look at what Acura charges for it....the new RL starts at almost $50,000.

With Lexus as a company I couldnt be more satisfied. Things are looking like they will soon dominate the Luxury brands. My only fear is that they may become like BMW in the sense that they will start making the driver into a passenger. BMW puts WAY too many computers into their cars and it hampers the ability for drivers to get a little goofy in their cars. True, it makes the cars more safe, but it takes the fun out driving. There is a happy medium in there somewhere, they just have to find it!

Reliability amoung japanese cars remains about the same, with toyota/lexus having a slight edge over the others, but quality remains distictly different. My moms civic is 7 years newer than my lexus and the cars have similar reliability, both are excellent, HOWEVER, the civic has by far more rust, has already gone through two mufflers and definitely feels and drives like a cheap econobox, while the lexus feels like a luxury-cruiser. Thats the quality difference.

I always like Lexus GS, LS, and SC since I was only middle school student. My dream wanna buy Lexus any models! All of cousins were working dealership salesperson and manager.

well made car. I just have this little wind noise issue off of the drivers mirror that lowers my rating slightly. all else is well.

I am loving lexus. Its the most reliable car made, looks HOT, it pretty quick, and has the name that people recognize. When I had my infiniti people used to ask me if it was a Lexus all of the time:egads:
