Is it possible to program the remote on my own or do I need to take it into the dealer ? I remember reading a thread for programming the remote for 97 es but cannot find it .
Thanks

You can program it yourself. Here are the instructions:

1. Driver's door open and unlocked, all other doors closed and locked.
2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, remove key.
3. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times).
4. Shut door.
5. Open door.
6. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times).
7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to on position (DON'T START), wait 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key.
8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once). If they don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over.
9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second, release. The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower.
10. Close the door. Open the door. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should cycle. Close the door. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock. Press again and the doors should unlock.

Congratulations - You are done!

i have a 92 ES with the lock/unlock button on the side of the key. do any of you know if it's possible to program the 97 & up remote to work for the 96 & down models? i know the newer remote is totally separate from the key, and has the lock/unlock feature, trunk pop, and panic (i think). i really like having my lock/unlock button on the side of my key, but i always wanted to be able to pop my trunk remotely. has anyone ever accomplished this before?

Unfortunatly the 97 remote will only work on 97-99 lexus models. Does your 92 have a button to pop the trunk (in the car) or a lever. If you have a lever you will not be able to get a remote to function the trunk anyway.

When I got my car it did not come with the remote, for whatever reason I don't know. I just got my remote today and works great. I got it off ebay for $15. I know the dealer charges $170 for the remote and additional fees to program. I love the Lexus keyless entry, instead of a horn honking or a churping noise, it makes a nice beep (similar to that of a computer) and the parking lights flash. Its so Pimp.

Anyways if you decide to check it out any further just search for lexus remote on that auction site, you will find what you need.

Yes you can find and program a remote for the '97+ models, but unfortunately for the '96 and ealier ES300's it is not that simple. From what I found in ALLDATADIY.com the keyless entry can only be programmed if you match the chip in the key with the chip in the main unit located behind the right rear trim panel. Basically you have to buy a new unit and key, which go for about $230. If I find out anything different I will be sure to let everyone know. I really want to use the keyless entry feature as well.

Thanks,
Dave

Paries, try this slightly different programming method. The one described earlier in this thread didn't work for me either a few months ago, but this one did:

Sit in the driver's seat and lock all the doors.

Unlock and open the driver's door.

Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (don't turn it...just remove it).

Using the MANUAL lock switch on the driver's door, lock and unlock the door 5 times.

Close the door.

Open the door.

Lock and unlock the driver's door 5 times (I'm almost certain you use the MANUAL lock switch again, but if this sequence fails to work, try again with the power switch).

Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.

Remove the key.

The driver's door will now lock and unlock itself one time.

Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least 1 second.

Close the driver's door.

Open the driver's door.

Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob for at least one second.

Close the driver's door.

Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob. The door will lock.

Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the key fob again. The door will unlock.

You should be all set.

Subtle differences, but I remember having trouble initially programming a remote as well ('98). And I sympathize with the feeling like an idiot thing. My wife thought I was a loon. But this sequence worked. Honest. Good luck.

Yes, the 92-96 have an electric trunk release, however it's not tied into the keyless entry. Buying a keyless entry unit from a salvaged 97 and then wiring it into the trunk sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

Are you sure that the remote you have is for a 97? Post a pic of it.

It should look like this one:

do the instructions posted in this thread work for a 96 ES? I have that single button remote thingie, the normal looking key with the small button on the side...I do not have another preprogrammed remote..

skperformance
03-23-03, 05:54 PM
no these will not work for the 92-96 es
the button beside the steering wheel is to turn the chirp noise for the alarm on or off
i think the frequency for the transmitter is fm 93.7 i may be wrong
tune the station press the button on the remote if you hear a weird noise on the radio the key works
if still nothing then you may have to ground the key to the receiver box in the trunk it is supposed to have a slot for the key
then press the button whil it is in there
i will have to look in the manual
you may have to buy a new set of master keys which come with a new chip

hey sk,
thanks for the info, but i just got the official documentation regarding the programming of the 96 ES remote, and they are identical to the ones posted in this thread. i have to get the key and try these directions though..know anyone besides lexus-parts that have these lexus keys? my key is $115, and right now it's still a little steep for me....

skperformance
03-26-03, 06:42 PM
where did you find it and what official documentation?
i am going on instructions from 2 lexus dealers and my Lexus service manuals for the 94 es 300 which is the same as yours
which also does not look anything like the one pictured in the photo above
which is the seperate key fob
as to our 1 button does all on the master keys only

SlashBecks
03-26-03, 10:47 PM
hey sk,
yeah i found it kinda odd as well, but i got these docs from DevilDog, you probably know him, he's moderating a couple of forums i believe, he sells keys and he sent me the pdf which looks pretty original to me...

i may be wrong, but were the alarm systems modified for the 95-96 ES? i thought i saw that somewhere, but i'm not entirely sure...if so that may explain why these directions are different than the ones you have...i'm assuming your instructions have worked for you?

skperformance
03-27-03, 05:53 AM
no real instructions for it just plug in the trunk ecu and play as it is only made for the 2 new keys

SlashBecks
03-27-03, 02:43 PM
but what you're talking about is a new ECU with the matching keys correct? i'm not replacing anything, just getting a remote key and programming it to work with my existing ECU.

skperformance
03-27-03, 03:24 PM
yah i know what you are trying to say:)
but i know it wont work
but i can't blame you for trying they are a damn expensive key
but no harm in trying atleast then you willl be postive it won't work for sure
for you

SlashBecks
03-27-03, 06:32 PM
oh well :) yeah i'm gonna give it a shot...see what happens...if it doesn't work then what? plug the new key into the ecu or something?

skperformance
03-27-03, 06:46 PM
no plugging the key is for making sure it works in case of antenna failure or off code or something
but the new key is usless it
HAS to have a dedicated ecu chip!!!!!!!!!!!!!
orther wise no go
simple as that

Will any 97 to 01 ES300 remote work with my 97 ES300?

There is this guy on Ebay that has a dozen of them, selling all of them in a dutch auction, with the same title "Remote for 1997 ES300" and the picture he has looks exactly the one I need to.

But he has only one part number listed, so it means that all of the ones he has for sale have the same part number, so do all the 1997 ES300 have the same part number also?

He has 12 and he is selling them for $20 each. I wanna go ahead and order one through buy-it-now, but I want to make sure it will work before I order it.

Thanks!

PS: Also, does anybody know if the front bumper, front grille, and/or the rear tailights from the 2001 Lexus ES300 fit the 1997 ES300?

Zeta
03-28-03, 06:38 PM
yeah nanotech, the remote works for the '97-'01 ES's.
go ahead and get it.

for the bumper, grille, and tail lights...
you've already opened a thread on it, and there's not really anyone that has really tried it yet. if you want to find out by yourself, you'll just have to get the bumper, the grille, and the tail lights and find out. the bumper and grille i would guess would just be plug-and-play. but the tail lights, i'd have to see the bolt pattern in the back to be sure.

Hey Marc, as far as I know, that keyless fob with the 3 buttons (unlock, lock, trunk open) will work only on the '97-'99 ES, and so won't work on the '95. This question was asked many times in this forum, and has been tried as well. It looks like you'll have to look for the OEM master key fob w/ the oval-shaped lock/unlock button.

Oh, and please turn the 'CAPS' button off next time when typing... :egads:

For your Info

The keyless programming instructions for ES 300 posted by NIXSUN79 worked perfectly for the 97 LS400.

Was having trouble finding info on LS 400 keyless programming. Bought FOB on Ebay for ES 300(they said it would probably work with LS400) and it worked great.

Thanks everybody.

Here are instructions:

4. Shut door.
5. Open door.

Hello all, I just picked up a 1996 LS400 and it only had one key fob, I had the dealer I purchased from throw in another keyfob into the deal. When I went into to get the new keyfob, the service department was closed, so the salesman gave me the keyfob and said come back when service is open.

Anyway, I decided on a whim to try these instructions even tho its listed for a ES300, and it worked on my 1996 LS400 also. I thought I would post in case other LS400 folks are looking for these sort of instructions.

Great forum!!!

I was looking for replacement keyless entry remotes not too long ago and I found a site that had them really cheap for my 96 SC and 99 ES.

I had them delivered in less than a week and the programming instructions only took maybe 10 seconds?

Anyways, here's a link to the site:

I have searched ALL the FORUMS and the Programming Mystery is still unsolved for the 92-94 Lexus ES300.

I purchased my 1994 Lexus with 1 Key (NOT a remote key). I was told by my local Lexus dealer that they could order a Key and program it. The parts guy said if I would like 2 Remote Keys I would need to order them at the same time or else they won’t work… He gave me the Part # (8970550946R-K) to match my VIN# (JT8GK13T9R0027***) which I confirmed.

The parts guy told me it was complicated to program these and that I would have to schedule an appointment to have the dealer do it…. I didn’t tell him that I work for Honda (we program keys for free)… but the Red Flags went up! ... $$$$$$ ! But he maybe right!

The dealer quoted my $320 for 1 Remote key; cut and programmed… w/ an optional 2nd Remote Key for $125 additional and a 3rd for another $65…. What a racket!

I have a PDF of the actual Lexus Dealer Remote Key Program/Troubleshooting instructions for the 92-96 ES 300 Remote Keys and will gladly send them if it would help to figure this out. I have yet to find anyone who can give me a straight answer.

Here's where I need help!>>>>>>>> and the disconnect, misinformation, lack of information or lack of understanding occurs.

From what I understand and have found in ALL the Forums about Remotes Keys and at www.thepartsyouneed.com.... the 92-96 ES use the same 1 button Remote Key w/ 2 possible FCC ID’s (FCC: HYQWDT-B or HYQ1512A)..... But the actual LEXUS Program/Trouble Shooting instructions mention “NON-PROGRAMMABLE" (Pre-1995) Remote Keys????? and the use of a "ROM Chip" that's on the ECU (mounted in trunk on the driver-side)

This is where I get lost...

First, If I can't program the Remotes... Do they Flash/Reprogram or Replace the ROM Chip on the ECU ?... Second, when the Flash/Reprogram or Replace the ROM Chip; are they matching it to 1 of the 2 alleged FCC ID's? If not, there must be more than 2 FCC ID's.... or else you could open any 92-94 ES with 1of 2 of the Remote Key FCC ID's...

Possible ways to confirm....

1) Information from someone with a 92-94 who has ordered Remote Keys and Programmed them.... SUCCESSFULLY!

2)Maybe someone with a 95-96 ES and someone w/ 92-94 ES could contact their Local Lexus Dealer with their VIN# to let us know if their Replacement Remote Part # matches the one they provided for my VIN# (first paragraph) and provide the FCC ID's on there Remote Keys... to see if they match the Alleged 1 of 2 Remote Key FCC ID's.

3) ????

Has anyone successfully accompished purchasing and Programming "Remote Keys" for a 92-94 ES300 without going to the dealer?

Thanks in advance for any help....

All I needed was to add remotes to my receiver. I got new units for about 1/3 dealer price for my 96 SC400 & 99 ES300 on -

Yes, I see that many have successfully programmed 95 &96's... but the 92-94 seems to use a ROM chip. They are telling me I need to replace the ECU and the Keys at the same time. (They claim the ECU comes pre-programmed to match the Keys.)

I wonder if I can get a 95-96 ES 300 ECU (that doesn't have a ROM Chip) from a salvage yard and swap them.... and then purchase keys that I can program. ANYONE KNOW IF THE WIRING IS THE SAME AND IF IT WILL PLUG RIGHT IN!!! AFTER ALL THE PROGRAMING INSTRUCTIONS ARE THE SAME.... AND THE ARE SAYING THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE "ROM CHIP" ON THE ECU.

Anyone have a wiring diagram of the ECU for the 92-96 ES 300?

I did a little more digging... I called 8 Lexus Dealers and emailed a few yahoo stores...

It's more cost effective and less headache to just install an aftermarket alarm system on the 92-94 ES 300's.... and the aftermarket alarms allow you to "pop the trunk" and "roll windows up/ down" and "Auto Start"...

Thanks for your help guys.

Damn, THANK YOU bibbens , you just saved me $250. My remote died and when I replaced the battery, it did not want to pickup my car. Dealer wanted $250 for a new one plus programming fees... These instructions worked perfectly the second time; on my 97 ES300, the second set of lock/unlocks has to be done with the power lock. Now my remote is working like a remote with a new battery (good distance on it!) Aside from that, it worked like a charm; my hat is off to you my good sir!

:golf: anyone!!!

Honest. Good luck.

Hi this is my first post! I came here to find out how to turn on my key lock chirp. Is there a way to make the horn honk, too? The reason for doing this is that my neighbor across the street has one of these, too, and I want to be able to match him beep for beep. Last week we had a chat about our 'quiet and peaceful' neighborhood, and what could he do to stop his dog from barking at 630 when he leaves for work. Now he's started locking and unlocking his car all day long between trips to the car/house. I have never even locked my car here, but I think it's time to start. Thanks for the walkthru. I assume that repeating these steps turns off the chirp?

Dude, those are the same directions that I left up above... what is different?

looks like all doors locked on his & all but drivers on yours is the only difference. Now when doing the lock unlock 5 times is it lock lock lock lock lock, then unlock " " " " , or lock unlock lock ulock "" "" "" ? I have the remote that is on the key head.

Dear All,

How does this apply to my 93 Es with an aftermarket alarm? (I think the previous owner or maybe the owner before put in an aftermarket alarm.) the remote I have been using is two buttons (one round, and one smaller like a grain shaped) to un/lock and arm/disarm the alarm. I think it is an Megatronix Mega MT-52.
Now, i'm not sure which alarm that this is working with.
But recently, dont know how it happened... i lost the chirp when using the remote un/lock doors. This happened after I was trying to fix my burnt needles when I disconnected my negative car battery terminal. But the whole system still works. ie. door lock and unlock without the chirp. lights would flash.
Then on monday (Aug.27) My remote died. Dont know what the heck happen.
I used the remote to unlock my car. (It responded with two flashes of the lights.) I also used the key to turn the driver's door lock once. (dont ask me why i did that). next thing I know is that the engine cutoff was activated. I can't start my car. I hear the usualy chim and then try to start, everything went dead.
This is getting to long of a story. Any one know what can I do to get it back??
So, I will try to use the instructions here to see if I can get my remote or at least the key fob to remotely lock/unlock doors.

great instruction. I did it. the instruction worked for my 93 ES. Now I can use the key fob to un/lock my doors. (of course, i put in a fresh battery)

Could I somehow tripped the alarm and caused my stereo/ac unit not to function? It is completely out. can't turn on. only the clock works. nothing else works, LCD is off. buttons are out.
Any idea?
