'89 Nissan 240SX SR20DET swap

still have my Maxima 5spd

cons with the Lexus? minor electrical problems... guage bulbs going out, HORRIBLY slow and lazy tranny... slow off the line, and even not off the line its slower than my other cars...

but quality is good, and the car is solid, and its just a pure comfy freeway cruiser :) I love it!! (I'm getting old)

There's a 'Honda & Acura', 'Nissan & Infiniti', and 'Chrysler & Mercedes' redundancies, but no mention of the third largest automaker in the world: Toyota? Since you can't list thirty car brands in one poll, the options should just read the top automakers...

GM
Ford
Toyota
Volkswagon
Daimler-Chrysler
Honda
Nissan

and we can't forget the euro demographic...

PSA Peugeot Citroen
Renault
Fiat Auto

BTW, I drove a Toyota Camry before the Lex...

Hmm, I can't check off all the ones I want to :) , but i've owned many whips, and nothing does it for me like the Lexus coupe, bought one because i've loved the design since day 1, and my old man bought a '95 SC3 new that was almost exactly like the one I have now, same colour, interior, etc, he had it for awhile and only put about 8k miles on it, was going to keep it hoping it would be a classic, like i'm thinking. As for drawbacks, a little more power is always good, if only they had offered the Soarer 2.5 GT-T here, or an SC3-T with the MKIV TT's GTE, Getrag, LSD, springs, shocks, sway bars, bushings, and brakes...

'95 Ford Bronco - my college car. A love/hate relationship. I loved it when it wasn't in the shop for repairs.

'98 Ford Expedition - you would think I would have learned my lesson about Ford reliability. What a POS...the tranny had to be replaced twice in less than eight months (along w/ numerous other problems). I only had this car a year before trading it in for my GS.

1976-79: 1971 Volvo 144S wagon - real clean, burned oil
1979-80: 1975 Chevy van - wouldn't get the boat up the ramp
1980-81: 1973 Chevy 3/4 ton PU - this beast would move that boat
1981-83: 1980 VW Scirocco - red, clean, fast, gobs of torque steer

Per popular request, I added Toyota. Well, that and I needed to click on it.

92 Toyota Camry SE, 5-speed: Great car, traded it for the GS just before I hit 100K. Rare Japan import (not KY built)
87 Toyota Corolla FX-16: High winding, reliable -basically MR2 engine in boxy Corolla body
78 Pontiac Catalina Safari Wagon: Never broke down but had rear main seal leak that drank 2qts oil per week
73 Pontiac Firebird Formula Ram Air, built 65 GTO 389 engine with lots of goodies. Over 400 hp, but left me stranded one to many times.

1989 Thunderbird Supercoupe, 215k miles on it, the motor has never been apart, doesn't smoke, still runs as it did in 1991 when I bought it. I painted it black myself in 1997 when it was dented while parked in 2 seperate incidents, and the (originally ) silver metallic couldn't be matched very well by 2 high end body shops. I got fed up and decided to do it myself. 4 coats of clear, I wet sanded it down, it has no orange peel.
315 lb ft of torque @ a low 2600 rpm and posi , it's the perfect car to leave twin strips of rubber. And I do :)

1993 Soarer 2.5GT (still have it)... very well built, very quick for a car it's size, keeps up with some of the big player names in the Japanese performance car world like 1994~2000 Impreza WRX, R33 Skyline GTS25t, Nissan Fairlady Z turbo etc.

Had a 92 Acura Legend, which was hit by 2 deer!

literally - hit by deer? thats funny in a sick way - it actually happened to me and a friend one time on the way to school. we were riding along in his 92 plymouth voyager going about 50mph, when i see this deer stop at the side of the road, right in front of the opposite lane to our left. being tired and groggy, i just kinda thought to myself 'that thing is going to run out into the road and we're gonna hit it' but it didnt actually get out of my mouth. sure enough, the damn thing ran in front of an suv, narrowly missing it, but then plastered itself up against my friend's driver's side door. all traffic stopped DEAD, but my friend just floored it yelling "WHAT THE ***** WAS THAT!?!?!" as he didnt see it at all. from what we heard, the thing flew up 10 feet into the air and into the opposite lane. it dented his door to the point where his window wouldn't roll down, and it took off his side view mirror.

oh btw, first car was a 99 bmw 740il. handled really nicely for a big car, but i wanted something sportier yet just as luxurious, so i opted for my sc :D

Had some thump in the hatch and just drove it to death...took it fourwheeling once with some friends.. ended up flooding out the motor...never ran right again...after that i went and got a 1994 stang in winter of 1996...thats when the mod bug hit me...done everything under the sun to the stang...when a family friend received a 1998 gs400 when they very first came out......i fell in love no doubt...such a beautiful car...even when i see a regualar stock one...but finally got one after 5 or so years in the stang...i also had a 1968 stang with a 302 and a 1966 charger with a 383 magnum in it. very strong running car. dad sold it cuz it was too fast....i swear i had 14 people in that charger once...what a hog

a handme down 89 carolla from my dad!

yea that thing was awesome... before getting on the highway while on the onramp i had to turn off the AC take off the over drive and floor it!

this was also the car I almost ran off a cliff in once. i was coming down a windy road on the side of a mountain with 3 friends in it. i put it in neutral to coast (dont ask why, i was young and in HS) and then i accidently pushed it too far into reverse and the engine stopped! :egads: I lost power steering and breaks and I was going 50!!!

wowsers that was scary... turning the beater was horrible with 3 fat friends in the car. luckily i got it over in time before the major turn came. stupid me!

According to your list, it took you 7 years (86-93) to realize what a POS american cars is.... SAD but true! I know we american can build a space shuttle to go into space, but for automobile, we can't do it for crap! It gotta have something to do with the american workers in the automobile industry. Everytime I think of my POS Pontiac 6000's breakdowns, I visualize some fat lazy bumb in Detroil's GM factory, who installed the engine in that car on a friday afternoon and forgets that he should have paid more attention and precision into his work. Instead he was probably thinking of his fat girlfriend and the cheap Bursh beer in frig @ his trailor park. DAMN I'm so mad still! But, the Lexus just redeems everything I hate about cars....

It took me til I got a decent job right out of high school to dump american junk. I am stuck on Japanese cars . You said you had a pontiac 6000 le, My mother had one of those in 1986. ... My reason for owning Japanese cars is very simple. I would rather buy a car from people who work 6 days a week 18 hrs a day and never complain than to buy from a lazy arse American who always complains and wants to go home early because they are tired. My mother works for Ts Tech a form of honda and the japanese people that work their dont complain a damn bit. American workers are just flat out LAZY.

I think I will have to tone down the fact about not buying American's.... I do buy americans as much as I can, I want to buy American's... But gosh, build something with pride, not with price! Make me feel what I'm buying is worth something. How could I look @ a Saturn or a Focus and think or feel "DAMN I'M SO COOL TO RIDE IN THIS RIDE"

I buy Japanese's because I work REAL hard for my money, I don't plan to trade in my car every 3 years (which is the avg. time for all American's car to begin to break down) for a newer model. Moreover, I hate that trip to the dealership where the domestic car saleman treats you like you just another dumb@ss who will buy a POS car so he can get that bonus commision to go and buy a foreign car (like Lexus) :)

Anyway, I will and always try to buy American's, support our economy, but I must need to have a reliable rides, and until American workers can build something like Lexus, I will have to spend my hard earn cash on foreign cars! Nothing personal, it's all business (Godfather I )

1984 Nissan 200SX 5 Spd Hatchback N/A- Lovely car and will always be remembered by me as my start. Only had it three months until it got hit by a bus.
1994 Nissan Maxima GXE- Awesome car, incredibly reliable, 4.5 years of no worries.
1997 Nissan Maxima SE 5 Spd- POS I bought off EBAY, painted everywhere, rattles, started selling it after the first week. Sold it back on EBAY and got every penny back, 2.5 months later.
1998 Nissan Maxima SE 5 Spd- Incredible shape, had it for a year, put on 15K miles, sold it for $200 more than what I paid for it. Never had one flat tire, never went up on a lift, nothing. Just solid, consistent fun, Fully Loaded and modded too. Really missing it, the amount I got for it is the only thing that justifies it.
1999 Lexus GS 400- Had a few minor issues at first, but overall, I'm growing to like it. Cant mess with the status you get.
2000 S2000- Traded my friend the GS for it for a week. Real fun to drive, considered getting it, realized it was too much like a street legal Go-Kart.
1988 Caddy Fleetwood D'Elegance- Bought it off someone getting rid of it for $200, made $350 for myself on it. Ran strong, great condition for its year.
1996 Maxima SE 5 Spd- Basically every possible bolt on available, including Stillen V2 Supercharger with smaller pulley. Dynoed at 278HP to the wheels, making it 310HP+ at the crank.

Considering A6 4.2 as my next ride. Might just stick with the GS.

Owned a Nissan Sentra, bulletproof but it was time to move on up. Infiniti blew monkey nuts back in 1996. If the G35 existed back then, my whole car life would be different. THere might not have been a 1SICKLEX (or 2 or 4):D

Happy with the Lex almost all the way around...

Had a 300zxTT before (one that i actually drove for a long time, other cars i only had for a couple months at a time)

was very unreliable, always breaking something, tho it was quite fast when it ran correctly... still pulled harder than my car does now; tho not by much; i'm slowly getting to that point with tuning, etc

Thing I liked about my Z over the Lex was the handling aspect... Z was much more taut and flat and could take turns at a higher speed

tho the Lex has more of a pimp factor, more sleeper factor, and more passenger room :) (not to mention the reliability)

We got a green 2003 Honda Pilot EX-L with DVD the first week they came out. My wife loved it and had no desire to ever get rid of it. For the hell of it, we went to look at the new RX and she fell in love again! I wanted her to get exactly what she wanted and she got it a few days later. We only miss the 3rd row of seats in the Pilot but we only used them because we had them. The Pilot also had its rattles but overall, it was a great family hauler.
