A few weeks ago a few members posted a thread regarding the possiblity/intrest in a SC330 model. I am not sure who has or has not seen the 04 Solara, but it looks JUST like a SC! Of course they are not identical twins, but alot of the character lines (especially the rear flanks) are very similar. My brother (StefWilli) is a Toyota new car salesman, and reports that the Solara is a great perfomer, and is also very plush, could this car be the basis for the SC330, just look at the basics:
3.3 motor
hard top
Similiar styling
Ease of shared platform-lowered price
What do you all think? My brother and I were talking about this last week and I have been meaning to post it here to gauge the "real" SC owners' opinions.
I don't think Lexus would produce a FWD sport coupe. I would think a more logical step is to create a coupe base on the IS300. I don't expect to see a SC3x0 until 2004/5 when the new rumor Supra is to be released.
They share a lot of the same components is what I was told, but I hope they don't make a 330 model. The SC 430 was supposed to be a flagship for the marque and a 330 would tarnish that IMO. A fixed roof coupe would be like a 6 cylinder Corvette. Jaguar, Mercedes etc. have made more powerful versions of their sporty convertible, but not a less powered coupe version. Toyota needed something like the Solara in their lineup since honda has an Accord coupe. I don't think they would want a similar vehicle in the Lexus line. Look what happened to the Acura CL coupe which was a real nice Accord coupe. The CL (a great car) is dead now from terrible sales. The Solara would be in the exact same niche as the SC 330. With a new two door (and convertible) IS 300 on the way I think that's a better way to go. Just my two cents.
LOL, you can always count on 1SICKLEX I would say the Solara are based a little on the SCs but just like any other cars out there.. Like the Stealth and 3000GT... Just in this case the SC and Solara are not as close... Toyota prob wanted something to look close to the SC so people who wanted that look that didn't want to pay 40k + could have something that close for alot less
