.... that is going to give me a few BILLION dollars and send a thousand or more bodyguards over to help my kids fight the school bullies. During this "layover"......does that sound familiar to anyone???? Ok not trying to bash Bush just his advisors... the US has practically noone to help them get out of that mess theyre are in and the ONE country that is willing they don't give them the respect they deserve. I'm not saying start worshiping the japanese on their knees but come on an official press conference by the National Security advisor herself... Just thought it's ironic that the US is in such a mess in Iraq and the White house is still acting like the help is no big deal... It would be funny if the japanese prime minister would think twice but then again N Korea is there with their fingers on that Nuke trigger so I doubt he would.
Not trying to start a flame war but I think an official statement from the N.S. advisor should be proofread before given infront of the cameras. My $.02.

You must put it into perspective if you are going to make an analysis like that. Because, to answer your question "does that sound familiar to anyone????" NO, if you word it the way you did.
"that is going to give me a few Hundred dollars and send a small group of police officers over to help my kids control the school bullies that are vandalizing the school and hurting everyone smaller than them at the school."
BTW: the US is seeking help and just got approved for it by the UN. BTW: Japan has a reason why it can not go, even though they will probably end up going.

OK I respect what you said SC and yes you are right the UN has passed it but there are NO offers as of yet.. in fact the 3 major countries (in terms of their economies and/or stature Russia, France, Germany) said outright they wouldn't send money or soldiers. Another thing is that Japan from MY understanding, after watching CNN, would give 1.5 Billion in the next year and about 5 Billion over the next few years which is great for the U.S. economy. The UN gave the green light for countries to offer and send help but noone is racing to offer anything as of yet AS EARLY AS IT IS. You also mentioned they would send police officers instead from what i said "bodyguards".... The US soldiers right now are acting as police officers to a CERTAIN degree also so you shouldn't degrade the japanese presence by calling them JUST police officers. Any country's soldiers are the bodyguards of that nation. If you weren't trying to say that I'm sorry as my understanding is that they would send soldiers rather than police officers. Again I didn't mean to start a war with words with you SC I just thought that any help the US gets it should be appreciated. That's all. Again if my post was inflamatory in any way or degrating to the US soldiers there I'm sorry that was not my intent. This is just an opinion on something I heard today which didn't sit well especially after the US needed to take some pressure off it's shoulders. Anyways thanks and I hope you or anyone else doesn't take offence to anything I just said as I was going by the latest news I heard and my understanding of them.
So what i'm saying is that the NS advisor made a booboo that's all and if I were japanese in Japan it would have pi$$ed me off that's all.

I personally don't think France would volunteer, how good would it look if their soldiers and our soldiers were together and stumbled on MORE Weapons that France sold Iraq.... or if they were attacked by French sold RPG's... Not good.. I understand that some Iraqi people probably have weapons made by us, I think everyone in the world does off the black market. France was selling weapons to Iraq while we were pushing the most current resolutions.
Plus, Russia will probably be sending troops, Germany might as well. You have to understand that these were the 3 main countries that strongly spoke out against the war, so it would be likely that they are not going to jump right on board with anything led by us now.

Japan still has to be very cautious of what they do, they are still under treaty to NOT send troops to participate in anything outside of Japan.

In the comparison you made, Police would be the better term used. The soldiers that are over there are playing more of a Policing roll anyway. A Bodyguard protects a possible target against outside danger, a Police Officer maintains the stability of the people to whom he is watching over.
I do agree that we need outside help, but I would be very cautious as to whom to ask for it.

Yeah you're right I don't think France will send any and as far as the selling of weapons I can't say anything becasue I can't say anything either way. Russia might send troops because a) has it's own terrorism thing going with Georgian rebels and wants US support in anything they do. b) I think the US has Russia by the bols :) cause if i'm not mistaken US is helping them out financially. As far as germany goes I'm not convinced they will... As it stands right now the only help the US is getting is from Japan. Pakistan said, as far as I know, they wouldn't send anything (even after they stated they needed a resolution).
Yes I heard too about their treaty. That is what stopped them from going along with the US in the first place besides all the demostrations and questions of legality of the war. Thats been debated 100 times so no need to say aything more. The only reason I think Japan is considering of actually giving the US a hand is becasue of their friendly Nuclear neighbours i.e. N. Korea (japan wants the US to help out more)
And the thing with the police officers instead of bodyguards i think we got our signals crossed by no means I tried to say Japan would protect something against Syria or something. I just took it as if you were calling the soldiers police officers as a way of making them sound less important or making them sound as if it's not a big contribution. That is why i said soldiers of any nation are bodyguards not just plain officers, that was what i was trying to say. Yes I agree totally the soldiers there have the roll of a police officer and God help them.
Now as far as the outside help there's only a few countries that could really help and I don't mean sending 10 soldiers and 1 million dolars. I mean real help in the billions of dollars and in major number of troops. Therefore going back to my original point that comment should have been screaned. I think Dr. Rice should have described it better at least infront of the cameras. That was my point anyways, not who's gonna help who isn't. Just stand up and respect the ones that do come forth and not act like it's not a major deal.
