Mobile 1 extended performance vs. Mobile 1 synthetic...
Lets hear from the oil experts here... anyone know if there actually a difference between mobile 1 extended performance vs. their regular synthetic?? a friend told me its just marketing and that they're just trying to get more money from you when you buy the extended one... thanks!

If it's marketing from Mobil, then I believe that's a pretty bad marketing skill.
If anything, Mobil makes money when you buy their products. So extending the oil change interval to twice the length will only result in the consumer buy less oil. The price for the EP isn't that much higher than the regular syn. oil. That is of course, if the performance of the EP isn't better than the regular syn.
I've ran both before. Honestly, no difference except the EP left a bigger hole in my pocket. In fact, I dont even run mobil 1 anymore since the price of a quart is more than that it's worth.
I've gone with Pennzoil platinum this time because its cheaper and works fine for me.

However, after they switched to this extended performance Mobil 1...they started looking for another oil. They notice MPG went down but consumptions is just as much as it was before.
I used the extended performance M1 last year just before changing out to German Castrol 0W30 (I am now using Liqui Moly 5W30 since I can't get the Castrol anymore down here), and both are an improvement over M1.
I can't say that the extended performance was that great either as I found myself using additives to avoid consumption issues I was having with the product, though my power and MPG seemed to be about the same as when I was using the non-extended version (which isn't sold down here anymore).

Here's the back of a Mobil I can from the 1970's. Notice the 25,000 mile oil change interval. If you change your oil every 3000 to 5000 and use oil that meet Toyota/Lexus specs, then save your money and use conventional.

You are better off buying the T&SUV kind, seem the most potent. The 0w20 is hardest to find.

Mobil changes its formulation over time, the EP used to have higher TBNs.
I have switched to German Castrol 0w-30, the only Mobil oil I still use is SL version of the 0w-20, which is a better oil than the current SM version

If I had to choose, I would easily take the regular M1 over the EP or take something like an M1 0W40, my personal favorite of the M1 group based on experience, though as TunedRX300 mentioned the SL version of the M1 0W20 is also excellent from what I have seen written about it. However, with the EP and regular it is almost like I am reliving the changeover with Trisynthetic and Supersyn M1, and I am sure some of you remember that one from a few years back.
