Are Factory 84 month Warranty Lexus Batteries Sealed?
My 07 SC has one of these original Lexus batteries; the date says 6/10 on it... so it's probably pushing about 5 years old. That's a decent amount of time for a battery to last, considering the two previous owners were old farts who most likely did not daily drive this car. At this point, I just want to see if I can breathe some life back into it by adding water.
It looks like it has top caps to add distilled water, but for the life of me... I can't figure out how to pry them off. Much elbow grease and a few different screwdrivers were used. Is this really a sealed unit, and I'm just thinking it's not? On top I can't find anything about it being "maintenance free". Some of the NAPA batteries have a similar design.
I picked it this car up last summer and have been driving it 2-4 days a week here in New England. When the roads get too messy with snow/salt I usually will use my daily driver instead. Recently it's been turning over really slow. I had the headlight switch set to on, and the heated seat dial on as well... so one time it wouldn't start at all. Trickle charged it, and 6 hours later it fired right up. Took a long highway drive with it, and the battery still got weaker a few days later. The terminals are clean and fine.

*running to garage* lol ... Thanks bro, I owe you one!
I will update this thread as to whether or not adding distilled, trickle charging, and giving it one last shot revives this battery. Sometimes OEM batteries that are just low on water won't hold a great charge, and revitalizing them will get them to last another 2-4 years. Otherwise I'll just go buy a sealed one for $130, drop it in, and forget it. My sister had a Camry Toyota battery that did this, and the simple maintenance made it last a total of 7 years.

So I peeled the stickers... moved them back. The caps don't unscrew, they just spin. Stupid. It's like they designed this battery to be maintenance-free/sealed but they used the old design. So yeah... you can't add water to these.
I got one of the edges of the caps up with a razor blade, and there's nothing to see. It must be glued in place somehow. There are no threads on the thing. Time to buy a new battery and drop it in.
