I agree. Simply, nitrous, what, 15 sec. Turbo, untill the turbo gets too hot. Nitrous, good for drag racing. Turbo good for drag or road racing.

I think we are getting a little off track.( turbo vs. NOS ) My point was that the IS can and will compete with the 335i in every way. And you can mod an IS350 for just as much HP as you can a 335i. I'm sure the stock parts will give out at about the same rate, HP, and time on both cars. If I had to guess I'd say @ the 450ish hp mark would be max on stock parts.

yea.. but you can do it to the 335i and feel safe and worry free for the first 50k miles or 4 years.. so buy one then sell it or lease it

Good news for the 335i owners. But I didn't buy my IS350 for speed. I usually drive under eighty miles an hour so what is the point for such a fast upgrade? Even right now someone could provide a similar upgrade for the IS for only $2000 I wouldn't do it. If I want a fast car, I would buy a stock fast car. Nissan GT-R would be my top choice if I have the money.

^^ why waste money on a 350 over a 250 if you dont like speed?

That I very, VERY much doubt.

Also, I gotta say that I'm a little surprised how many of the longtime IS fanatics here say they would have bought the 335i instead had it been available. Don't you guys like a challenge?

But really, though, the 335i would have never been an option for me unless I knew I didn't want to keep the car beyond the factory 50K warranty.
Nitrous is very different than any other FI application in that it boosts torque much more at lower RPMs than it does at higher RPMs. If you were to spray a 50 shot at 1000 RPMs, it could increase torque by a couple hundred ft - lbs. That would be way harder on the engine than a 60% increase in boost pressure.

with all the tuning going around for the 335i with the exception of the dinan flash which give you a warranty from bmw. people are getting insane numbers ie vishnu procedeV2 and AA Xede and JB2, your voiding the warranty and risking damaging the engine... Is it worth it in the end. Id personally go dinan 284hp/421tq at the crank bmw backs it up. But I am waiting for the IS-F and throw a couple of mods and its a beast and a lexus to boot.

It cracks me up that people think that Dinan mods carry the BMW warranty........read the warranty, same as every other modder.

For the last time: BMW warranties only BMW parts. Any aftermarket parts whether it be Dinan or Uncle ****'s mufflers are not covered, nor is any damage caused by said parts.

True, technically Dinan provides the warranty service, but Dinan matches the new car warranty, "including consequential damages." Uncle ****'s mufflers doesn't. Also, many BMW dealerships are establishing agreements to sell and install this, and they would have to provide the warranty service if they sign up to be authorized Dinan dealers.

Just another example of someone who cannot admit that the 335 is better than the IS 350 in terms of performance. The 335 engine is clearly better in terms of power and ease to mod compared to the IS 350.

It's not that at all. I think what Jeremy is saying is that for pretty much the same amount of money you can generate the same HP on each car. stock they are both 306, with $2000.00 into each car they will be around 375-380. One using NOS and one using turbo's. Yes we know the turbo is all the time. Just saying that the car's compete. And no matter what anyone says, stock for stock in just straight acceleration I would give the is350 the edge (based on experience myself and watching others). At the track the 355i wins.

same as the previous 6 pages of this ridiculously long thread that I just myself added more nonsense too. meh

Ok thats fair. I'll give that.

But stock for stock straight line... I think the 335 might beat the IS 350. The 335 manual beat the same BMW 550 I raced against easily... but with my IS 350 I pretty much tied the same 550 up to 80mph and then the 550 started to pull on me slowly and by 100 ish the 550 was 1/2 a cars length ahead of me. Both my race with the 550 and the 550 against the 335 were staged and we did several 0 to 100 runs.

Both cars are excellent and deliver the goods with their own attributes. The 335i has got a little more edge in the performance area, the is350 has it in the grand touring aspect. Consistant reliability is what counts, is350 is my choice.
