Stealth License Plate Covers
After seeing what VIP car meet owners are doing in Japan with flipping license plate brackets, I thought I'd share my own stealth license plate design. It's electric privacy glass that changes from clear to frosted at a push of a button located inside the car (or on 4 digit combination lock).
Now you see it, Now you don't !!

Look very closely at the pictures. Try to find 4 black tubes (1/2" circles) in the lower grill. Those are my rocket launcher tubes for Estes model rocket engines. Why else would I need stealth plates 
!

No BS, No photoshop trick. If you look inside the right side of the frame you can just make out the glass wires. I've had the panels about a year and have placed a clear plate cover over the front to protect the electric plexiglas. No problems, just little rock marks on the plastic cover and bugs of course. I believe the glass material is made by 3M. A shop made the glass for me and supplied the transformer (runs on ~60 VAC). It's mounted in a chrome picture frame custom sized and keeps the plate about 3/4" behind the glass. This is requirement to keep the plate from showing thru when frosted.

Top picture where the plate is clear, lower right corner inside the frame (between the glass and license plate) there is a pair of twisted wires that look like a solid black wire. I know it's difficult to notice and I should even try to hide the wires better 
. Maybe when I relocate my license plate lights inside the frame I'll move the wires more inside the frame too. If you still can't see it, just notice how the right side of the plate is not a straight vertical line. It's the wires that make it look that way.

Most states have laws against any type of covers on plates, if you are tring to fool the streetsignal cameras there is a spray that you can coat the plate with that you can not see and the cam only gets a washed-out pic.

Yeah, they also make anti-photo radar plastic plate covers. I removed mine when putting the stealth plate covers on. Too many layers (clear, ani-photo and 3M glass) in front of the plate and soon it won't be visiable at all . Not the intended purpose of my stealth plates, because as you pointed out, I want to be legal most of the time. Although this is a good idea to wire the stealth plate to change when the radar detector alarms, but I'm not sure I want to reset the plates every time a false alarm happens. Or have it change right in front of the officer - that would be asking for trouble
