DEARBORN, Mich., June 1 -- U.S. customers purchased or leased 283,994 cars and trucks from Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo dealers in May, down 11 percent compared with a year ago. Car sales totaled 101,711, down 5 percent and truck sales totaled 182,283, down 13 percent.

Mustang sales were 19,721, up 47 percent compared with a year ago and the highest May sales for Ford's legendary pony car since 1980.

"Mustang received straight A's again," said Steve Lyons, Ford group vice president, North America Marketing, Sales and Service. "The F-Series truck and Ford Five Hundred sedan also had pretty good report cards, but Mustang was the valedictorian in May's graduating class."

North American Production

The company plans to build 730,000 vehicles (210,000 cars and 520,000 trucks) in its North American assembly plants in the third quarter 2005. In the third quarter 2004, the company produced 747,000 vehicles (194,000 cars and 553,000 trucks).

In the second quarter of 2005, the company plans to build 905,000 vehicles (290,000 cars and 615,000 trucks), unchanged from the previously-announced plan.

Porsche Cars North America Reports May 2005 Sales
Best Month in History for Porsche in North America

ATLANTA, June 1 -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne SUVs in the United States and Canada, today announced May retail sales in the United States totaled 3,291 cars, an increase of 25 percent compared to May of last year. In addition to being the best May result in the U.S., it was the best month in history for Porsche in North America. Combined sales for Canada and the U.S. totaled 3,567 in May, surpassing the previous record of 3,547 set in December 1986.

"We couldn't have asked for a better result in May," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, PCNA President and CEO. "With our fiscal year ending in July, we are looking forward to setting yet another sales record, thanks to our sports cars, which are hot, and the Cayenne, which will finish the fiscal year at the same level as last year."

In addition, dealers sold 544 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, compared to 452 for the same period last year.

06/01/2005 Torrance, CA

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported May sales of 201,493 vehicles, an increase of 7.8 percent over May 2004. Mercedes-Benz USA New Vehicle Sales in May Down 1.8%
MONTVALE, N.J., June 1 -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported sales of 17,811 new vehicles in May, a decrease of 1.8 percent compared to last May. This brings the year-to-date sales total to 80,392 units, a 6.2 percent decrease from the first five months of last year.

The month did show some significant growth, including the recently launched all-new 2006 M-Class which recorded 3,319 sales - a 66.2 percent increase over May 2004. Strong sales performance was also evident in the SLK- Class model line with 814 units (up 119.4 percent) and in the G-Class increase of 32.3 percent (127 vs. 96 units).

"We expect momentum to pick up as we ramp up production of the new M-Class. On the heels of that, we will have introductions of all-new engines in our C-Class and SLK-Class model lines and the Fall introduction of the 2006 R-Class all of which should make 2005 another strong year for Mercedes-Benz sales in the U.S.," said Keith May, vice president of sales for MBUSA.

Separately, the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program reported May sales of 3,850 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 19,263.

In 2004, MBUSA achieved its eleventh consecutive year of sales growth by setting the highest sales volume in its history with 221,610 new vehicle sales. Headquartered in Montvale, N.J., MBUSA is responsible for the sales, marketing and service of all Mercedes-Benz products in the United States. Can anyone tell me why the DSR % changes for the current month quoted above are that high, or even positive to begin with?

I see decreases in many of those numbers, not increases, and even when they are increases, they do not increase by nearly the same percentages as the DSR % numbers suggest.

So Lexus' claim of this best May sales of 26,455 vehicles as an increase of 9.6% over the 26,155 vehicles sold last May is just plain weird to me, not to mention Toyota's claim of a 7.6% increase when the sales actually falls from 176,265 to 175,038.

Am I crazy here?

EDIT: OK I realize I was crazy. DSR = Daily Selling Rate and there are only 24 selling days this years compared to 26 for the last year.

Chrysler Group Reports U.S. Sales for May 2005 Increased 6 Percent

* Chrysler Brand Sets All-Time Monthly Sales Record * Minivans Continue Segment Dominance, Sales Increase 8 Percent * Chrysler 300 Continues Its String of Monthly Sales Exceeding 10,000 Units * Dodge Charger Available at Dealerships Nationwide, Nearly 2,000 Unit Sales in 10 Days with Limited Availability

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 1 -- Chrysler Group reported today that U.S. sales for May 2005 were 214,575 units, an increase of 6 percent. Compared to May 2004 which had two additional selling days and one additional selling weekend, unadjusted Chrysler Group sales declined 3 percent. All sales are reported on a day-rate adjusted basis unless otherwise indicated.

"With two fewer selling days during May and one less selling weekend, our dealers performed extremely well this month selling Chrysler Group products," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales. "Our product fundamentals are strong in our Large Car, Minivan, Sports Tourer and Truck categories that led to sales gains during May."

Chrysler Group's industry-leading minivans with the exclusive Stow 'n Go(TM) seating once again reinforced its dominance in the minivan segment by posting sales of 39,309 units, an increase of 8 percent over May 2004 sales of 39,387 units.

The company's Sports Tourer segment saw significant growth of 34 percent to 21,335 units in May 2005 compared to May 2004 sales of 17,312. Truck sales increased 1 percent to 51,693 units helped in part by strong Dodge Dakota sales, which increased 16 percent.

Sales of the Large Car segment increased 20 percent to 36,559 units, led by the Chrysler 300. It continued its healthy sales pace by posting sales of 12,958 units, a 7 percent increase over May 2004 sales, and a 14 percent increase over April 2005 sales of 12,837 units.

"The Chrysler 300 has proven it has staying power and broad appeal," said Dilts. "We've sold nearly 170,000 since last April and it is being purchased by every demographic category, with 20 percent of Chrysler 300 customers adding the vehicle to cars they already own instead of trading in another vehicle to get it."

Propelled by the sustained success of the Chrysler 300 and the Chrysler Town & Country minivan, the Chrysler brand set an all-time monthly sales record of 61,696 units, a 17 percent increase over record May 2004 sales of 57,333.

Overall, the Dodge brand increased by 1 percent to 112,610 units. The Dodge brand has returned to the sedan market with the introduction of the all- new, Hemi-powered Dodge Charger, which began arriving at Dodge dealerships nationwide during the month of May.

"Early feedback on the Dodge Charger has been extremely positive and indicates that customers are excited about the Dodge brand's reinterpretation of the classic," said Dilts. "Consumers have already bought 1,841 units

during May in only 10 days of being available and very few vehicles actually on dealers' lots."

Other Dodge brand products include the Dodge Dakota that posted increased sales of 16 percent to 11,840 units compared to May 2004 sales of 11,019 units and the Dodge Magnum, which posted increased sales of 5,035 units, a 135 percent increase over its introductory May 2004 sales of 2,320 units and 7 percent higher than April 2005.

Led by the strong sales of the Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee, which increased 9 percent to 18,040 units, and the Jeep Wrangler which increased 11 percent to 8,543 units, the Jeep brand posted sales of 40,269 units, an increase of 4 percent over May 2004 sales.

"The economy is continuing its steady recovery. The stock market has had a string of positive days, rising 100 points during May, consumer confidence has improved 5 percent since April and durable goods indicators are pointing positive along with housing starts," said Dilts. "We continue to launch head- turning products at a steady pace, joining the industry-leading products we already have in the marketplace. We are bullish about the economy and the prospects for buying a car for the rest of this year."

Chrysler Group finished the month with 584,432 units of inventory, or a 65-day supply.

Audi Reports May 2005 Sales Results

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 1 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported May sales of 6,455, representing a slight decrease when compared to May 20, 200504 sales of 6,874. For the year, Audi sales are 30,492, almost on par with 2004 year-to-date sales of 31,023 (-1.7%).

"Year-to-date both our new A6 and the Audi A8 have shown a strong performance", says Audi of America Sales Director Reinhard Fischer. "January to May 2005 the Audi A6 is up 32% over last year, while our flagship model, the Audi A8, is up 7.2% over last year." Strong sales impulses are also expected by the new Audi A3 which was only released in May but is already represented with 561 units in Audi's May sales results. Says Fischer, "first customer orders for Audi's newest model are very encouraging. Dealers are reporting a tremendous interest in Audi's newest offering, aided by an entirely new and unconventional marketing campaign."

Maybe one of these months Infiniti will break down the M35/M45 sales - they're on target with 2K/mo sales.

Those E350s can't come soon enough for MB - at the current pace the GS will over take it in sales.

You'd think there'd be some smart folks in Detroit who would have seen the SUV sales melt down coming and done something about it. No, we're GM and we're going to even push up the rollout schedule of the new big trucks and SUVs.

Accord and Civic refresh and new model can't come soon enough - who would have thought Honda would have to resort to GM like discounting to push sales.

The TSX/TL combo is selling its usual 10K/mo.

Things are not looking so good for the new A4.

Where are the BMW numbers?

It has been more than 2 years, they still don't break down FX35/45 sales #'s, & the FX has always been on target with it's 2K+/month sales too.

I think the GS, E & the 5 are already selling pretty even now, MB's E class sales includes the wagon & the AMG. Even with the 5's April sales of 4.5k, that's achieved with one more variation of it's 6 cylinder, the 525 in addition to the 530.
