ultimate japanese sports car?

This list is flawed if only because you added the RX-7/8 and 300ZX/350Z as siblings, they only share a name and some heritage.
I understand if you want to compare the lineups as a whole and not individual cars but under that logic there should be numerous other cars included; for example the earliest Supras were Celicas.
The RX7 wins as the quintessential Japanese sportscar though, it is track ready and the rotary engine is a gem only an enthusiast could love. In it's stock form the RX7 is the most rewarding ownership experience too.

I love the RX7, but Supra still is at the top of my mind. However, a modified NSX can prove to be fantastic car. As far as heritage, that has to go to the Z. Growing up, this was the first mainstream Japanese sportscar that I was exposed to. However, if we are talking rally, sti.

opinion from experience
I have owned the last generation Supra Turbo [whale tail], the 300zx tt and the NSX. Amongst these, the Supra has the greatest acceleration and the most easily modified inline six engine. The fact that it has a factory turbo also means that increasing hp is relatively easier.
The NSX however, is a car in a different league. It generates its power from an ultra smooth and race bred normally aspirated engine that is as flexible as it is wonderful to hear. The car is light and the chassis is incredibly rigid and balanced. It has superb handling, amazing balance and looks that are ever fresh. The driving position inspires confidence because of excellent outward visibility. The seats hold you in place and yet are comfortable over the long haul. The suspension can dance if you are in the mood and yet is supple enough to not beat you silly when just using this exotic for the daily driver.
If one is able to remove some weight [as I did with mine], it is very very quick in straigtline as well. On the interstate it will also easily give you 23-25 mpg!
The NSX is without doubt the greatest sports car to come out of Japan. The LF-A will overshadow it in every performance category. Long live the new king soon to be throned.

Don't forget to consider that although the Evo may not do as well in road racing, its a monster in rally racing...
I'll think a bit then cast my vote
