Hello all.

I have a 1994 SC400. The inboard rail under my passenger seat does not slide back and forth, and is stuck in the back position. When moving the seat adjustment, the motor does move the outer rail OK. This causes the seat to torque and jam since the inboard rail is not sliding.

I was able to take the seat out (many scraped knuckles since the seat was stuck in the back position), with the hope of finding a dime or some other object jammed in the inboard rail. Nothing.

I am now at a point where I think I need to start disassembling the rail/motor system,. I just bought this car 2 days ago, knowing this problem existed and figuring I'd have to go through something like this to resolve it.

As an interim step, I'd even like to at least be able to manually move the seat forward to a more medium setting, etc...

Before I go any further on this, I would greatly appreciate the experienced opinion of you folks here.

FYI for the group, I fixed it. Turned out it was a cap that came off the transfer case at the end of the drive motor axle where it meets the worm gear in the left rail.

I tried getting an OEM replacement, but could only go that route if I bought a complete subassembly (Lexus Part # 72205A). Instead, I found a plumbing fitting at my local hardware store that I made fit. It functions perfectly and is completely hidden from view. All's well now.

Thanks neuro. I have some before pics I took, will see what I can do about some afters, but I already put the seat back in. Might be able to get an off angle shot.

i have to tackle this job this weekend, does anyone have anymore info on what he is talking about exactly? i dont see how a cap could be all that important.

Thats so freakin funny, cause my car had the exact same thing go wrong with it, and i thought i would probably be the only guy in the world with that prob. I just threw a hardware fitting like you did in it, and its still holding up 4 months later.

if you look at the motor with the long shaft that ends at the track, it has a cap on it with a nut. play with it and it will move along the track.
