I think in today's auto scene, repairs and parts are simply expensive, no matter what car you drive...

I take these sorts of stories with a grain of salt. They are just indicative of what might happen, but the costs will vary depending on what type of car hits you, the angle, etc, etc. No one is going to buy a Saab instead of a G35 because of these numbers. If someone wants an IS or G35 they will buy it, they aren't going to think about repair costs IF they might get hit. These are just stories the media likes to hype.

i think this test is full of crap because you're only givin' an estimate on a certain damage point... if the momentum at which the car is damage is greater... you can't think of it as a linear price increase... in other words...

from a math stand point... try drawing a an exponential curved line with only one point...

Any new car is going to be expensive to replace in today's world because we want them to look good. Plastics are expensive.

If you want an example, look at motorcycles. You destroy the fairings on 2-3 year old bike and even though the frame and motor are fine, it is probably going to be totalled.

If you want cheaper repairs, get one of those old cars with the unpainted rubber bumper (can't think of the name)

I agree, although it pains me to see my favourite cars so low on the list (except Audi, but screw them for being unreliable. The only real damage I've ever had in an accident (only been in one) was from being rear-ended, so I wouldn't let collision repair numbers dissuade me from my favourite car.

Ultimately, what these tests establish, is which cars will be more expensive to insure. And, someone might use their insurance pmt as a deciding factor between 2 cars.

If that estimate is close to the actual price, my IS in repairs is going to be over ten thousand dollars. Boy is the insurance company stick it to me lol.

This is how it should be. Higher end cars are ALL ABOUT comfort, performance, looks, and occupant safety. The car's ability to withstand damage in an accident is very low on my priority list.

Bumpers are make to absorb as much damage as possible...If you want a car thats nearly unbreakable get one of those classic american cars... they are like tanks... in an accident your car is sure to live but no guarentee for you...
