Default 02 LX470 with rough ride

The ride quality on our 02 LX (75k miles) seems a bit rough. It has new Michelin LTX A/S tires and otherwise runs fine. The AHC system works as advertised and progresses from Low to High seemingly normally. It occasionally won't go into high with a load of people in it, but I hear the max it can handle is 1300lbs in high mode. I also measured 7 gradations on the AHC reservoir from low to high mode. Everything seems normal.
Any ideas on things to try? The suspension firmness control also seems to work as advertised, but once when the roads were wet and salty on a trip, it seemed to get stuck in "sport" --- really rough.

Any ideas?

TIA...

Get your accumulators checked out. My 02' LX470 had a rough ride and it was them. About $2500.00 to replace.

This vehicle was just purchased and is Lexus Certified. Any chance they'd cover something like this? If so, what angle would you use at service writeup counter? I can see them telling me right off the bat that it is a wear item and not covered.

Don't be a pessimist, if it is Lexus Certified and you are still under warranty.

Give them a call or drop by.

Just my $0.02 !

Also, worth a try is flushing out the AHC fluid. This is supposed to be done every 60k miles.

Default AHC System

I had the opposite problem my car was floating. And I had it repaired and it had a much firmer ride. I had the dealership print out a history repair report showing all that was done on my car. Its a SUV and they have a much firmer ride its not a town car or a LS400. I agree with previous posts have the dealer check it out and find out if they replaced it already. Hope that helps, I know $$3,000$$ later my car wasnt bouncing it was quite firm.

My went bad after 60k service. The dealer and Lexus will not stand behind them. Does anyone know a good shop that specilizes in Lexus/Toyota that is located in the Philadelphia Area? Is a dealership the only way to go?

I finally got around to getting it fixed. All was thankfully covered under warranty. They replaced all three height sensors. There are two in the front and one in the back. I wasn't charged but they list the sensors at around $350 each. Yikes. Ride is better now... Soft, but with good control. Much of the harshness is gone. The odd thing is that in vague general terms, the ride height control generally worked prior to the fix. I don't see how this is possible if the sensors are needed to tell the system where the actuators are in their travel.

The LX470 rides quite plush. Could be overinflated tires or something wrong with the AHC suspension. Try taking a test ride in another LX.

Ah, that's good. I once borrowed a friends car and noticed the ride was rough. Checked the air pressure and turns out the mechanic shop thought they could gauge the correct pressure "visually." The pressure was over 100 lbs in each tire!

Default Rough ride

Sorry I was wrong the ride is still the same I took another test drive just to see and even changed the damper setting and notice the ride was the same no matter what settings I had so I called the sales person and he had me bring it in so they will work on it tomorrow but I got a feeling they will come back that the ride is fine so I am already thinking of my next move! since the truck is certified and the parts are covered so if they give me the run around I was thinking of calling lexus directly any ideas ?

Hi

cv470 I have got similar problem with my car. The ride is harsh and it is only noticeable on expansion joints/cracks, potholes. On highway speed and bigger road imperfections everything seems to be Ok.
I have changed accumulators, checked sensors, shocks pressure, set everything (t-bars, sensors, car height) to correct specifications, fitted new tires (pressure front 30, back 32), changed AHC fluid four times and suspension works like before. I feel like suspension does not absorb this small road imperfections. Hope Lexus can resolve your problem.
Please inform us, after all, what was wrong with AHC.
