18 Years Later, Lexus Still Doling Out ‘December to Remember’ Big Red Bows
Sure it’s only November, but is it ever too early to be talking about another Lexus December to Remember? Well, if it’s not too early for Christmas carols, then I guess it’s not. And I’m pretty sure I started hearing those around Halloween.
Still, whoever came up with that little slogan better be getting residuals, because this Christmas Season is the 18th in a row you’ll be seeing “December to Remember” commercials, featuring your favorite Lexus rides all wrapped up in big red bows.
The campaign has become synonymous with Christmas itself, much like Coke’s polar bear spots. Which doesn’t exactly say a lot about the state of Christmas, but it does show how effective the spots have been for Lexus. You don’t stick with something for 18 years because it’s not working.
This year we’re getting a whole new batch of “December to Remember” ads, and they appear to be every bit as effective. Take, for example, the ad below, which finds a little girl composing a letter to Santa, in hopes of securing a GS F. Alas, her mommy grows impatient with spelling out “G…S…F,” so she scoots her kid aside and takes over the project.
Then, of course, we get the obligatory Lexus-wrapped-in-a-big-red-bow shot. Apparently, according to AdAge, people really do surprise their loved ones with Lexus gifts, and most dealerships offer customers a big red bow to borrow for the occasion. Which would indeed make for a December to remember.
