Lexus’ Next-Gen Flagship Hybrid Sedan Is Set for Global Debut

On the heels of the fifth-generation Lexus LS’ world premiere, today we’re getting our first look at the hybrid version: the 2018 LS 500h. Ain’t she a beauty?

As you’d expect, she looks a lot like her big, beautiful sister: the 2018 LS 500 that was recently dropped in Detroit and is currently being ogled in Chicago. But the LS 500h is a different beauty altogether, deserving of her own time in the spotlight.

We now know that spotlight will beam brightly March 7 at the Geneva Motor Show. But while the announcement of a debut may seem to take some steam out of the actual debut, there are still some surprises left in store.

First and foremost, we don’t yet know what powertrain the new hybrid flagship will employ. Motor Authority suspects the LS hybrid could share the same Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System technology that gives the LC 500h 354 actively-engaged horsies.

Of course, the LC is a sporty 2+2 coupe, and the LS is more of a moving couch. Granted, with the LMSHS, that would be one very efficient and peppy couch.

Besides the LS bombshells, Lexus will also show Geneva the LC, the RC, the RC F and the full line up of RX and NX models.

Furthermore, Lexus will introduce Europe to the 2017 RC F GT3 race car. They hope to showcase the marque’s growing emphasis on motorsports, which actually seems a little late considering the Europeans are arguably the biggest motorsport fans around. Still, they’re likely to be impressed by the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship contender, Lexus’s first official campaign car since 2009.

Needless to say, we’ll have all the exciting news out of Geneva, just as soon as it drops.
