2018 LS 500 F Sport: Here’s Everything We Know So Far…
Sporty new ride brings dynamic driving experience to Lexus’ flagship sedan.
Fresh on the heels of the highly acclaimed debut of the all-new LS sedan, Lexus pulled the covers off its hot version of the flagship — the 2018 LS F Sport — at the New York International Auto Show this week. Like its fellow F models, the LS F Sport adds a dynamic driving experience to the mix. This comes courtesy of a mixture of styling, mechanical enhancements, and interior upgrades.
For 2018, the F Sport package is available on both gas and hybrid LS sedans. Only those opting for the RWD, gas powered LS 500 will have the option of adding the F Sport Handling Package, however. That package includes Lexus Dynamic Handling, variable ratio steering, and active rear steering. A newly refined Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) keeps the vehicle flat in corners.
Larger 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes help slow things down in a hurry. And the F Sport rolls on 20-inch wheels with 245/45RF20+/275/40RF20 tires. Outside, you’ll find a number of additional, unique styling touches that separate the F from normal spec. Lexus claims that the new spindle grille, with 7,100 surfaces, took CAD designers a full five months to perfect. Other exterior changes include unique rocker panels and trunk moldings, bigger side vents, and of course, F Sport badges.
Inside, you’ll find seats that are more supportive for spirited driving, with a perforated grille pattern and scored aluminum trim. There’s also a special F Sport steering wheel, shift lever, and aluminum pedals. The speedometer and tachometer uses the same type of sliding, movable meter first seen in the LFA.
Despite all of these enhancements, there are none to be found in the drivetrain. The LS F Sport uses the same 415 hp/442 lb-ft twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 and/or hybrid powertrain combo as the regular LS. Expect to also see it, right along with the rest of the LS lineup, in early 2018.
