2019 Lexus ES Debuts: What Do You Think?

2019 Lexus ES

The all-new 2019 Lexus ES has finally broken cover. And Club Lexus members sure have a lot to say about it!

We’ve known for quite some time that Lexus was planning on heavily revising the aging ES sedan. One of the few remaining cars in the luxury automaker’s lineup that didn’t sport its new design language, we also knew that the 2019 Lexus ES would, at the very least, receive a new spindle grille. And now, we’ve finally gotten our first glimpse at the fresh sedan from the automaker. Then, the car subsequently debuted at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show. And now the question is, do you love it or hate it?

For that answer, we resort to the knowledgeable folks in the Club Lexus forums. Who obviously have a lot to say about the very new 2019 Lexus ES. And as RNM GS3 points out, it sure looks a lot like the GS, which could threaten that car’s existence.

“That grille is getting bigger and bigger. Front looks like the LS. If this thing has AWD then 100% GS is done. If China rules the world then we all will be driving FWD based cars with 2.0 4-cylinder engines. Even BMW and MB have gone full FWD for their cheap cars because they get away with it in China.”

But AJLex19 thinks that there’s a reason behind this madness.

“The ES has always seemingly been the little LS. Makes sense that the front end looks similar. The LS may be setting the ‘standard’ Lexus design cue this time around. Last time it seems it was the ’13 GS.”

However, BippuLexus has a much different, trickle-down theory.

“I don’t think the ES has ever been the little LS because the ES is based on the Camry/Avalon. I think the ES has the LS design cues because the LS is setting the design language for the rest of the Lexus line-up.”

But they obviously like it!

“Based on the front end of this leaked image, it looks like the Lexus ES redesign isn’t too dramatically different. It remains fairly close to its original styling but just much sharper lines. IE: The headlamps are different but they look relatively close to the outgoing model. Just with a sharper edge to it. Looks good overall in my opinion.”

Hoovey2411 likes it too, even the highly controversial new spindle grille!

“That front is not a huge departure from the current. That said, I really like the vertical grill slats. Lexus is getting better at the inserts. As the Spindle becomes more ingrained, it’s becoming more organic.”

And situman makes a good point about why we shouldn’t worry even if the 2019 Lexus ES was designed for the Chinese market, first and foremost.

“The current gen was first leaked and introduced at the Beijing Motor Show as well. That said, I like the look more than the current gen. I wouldn’t mind if they bring the design over from the Chinese market. They demand and love luxury items, so I would imagine the interior quality can be amazing to woo rich buyers. Imagine if Toyota had brought over the Camry from the Chinese market where it is considered a luxury car. Nobody will complain about having cheap interiors in the previous gens.”

All good points, indeed. But we want to know what you think! Head over here and add your thoughts surrounding the 2019 Lexus ES to what has quickly become a massive thread chock full of fascinating conversation!
