2021 Brings the Long-awaited Return of the Lexus F Models
The IS, LS, and LC models will be breathing fire with their upcoming variants, including a new 660 HP twin-turbo V8 for the latter two.
Few cars on the road can capture our attention as much as a Lexus F. When you do see one, which unfortunately is not as often as we wished, you can’t help but stare. An untrained eye may think nothing of it, but those that know, love it. They stand out amongst their more common German competitors, perhaps due to their rarity.
2021 may not be a complete generational shift for the Lexus IS, but rather a significant refresh. With this refresh will come the long-awaited Lexus IS F, due for release along with two other high-performance variants, the big-body LS F and the sleek and sexy LC F. Popular Japanese auto publication, Best Car Web, states that we may be seeing these models hit the showroom as early as November of this year.
However, the big question will be what engine will the soon-to-be IS F receive? The 2021 model year did not see a line up change the 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder or the 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 in the standard IS model. Thankfully, the IS F will maintain its heritage and feature a healthy 5.0L V8. We expect this to be the same 2UR V8 featured in the current generation RC F, which makes just under 500 HP. Sounds like a riot.
Separating itself from the pack, the Lexus LS will be making its F high-performance debut with this model year. When we say high-performance, we mean high-horsepower. 660 to be exact, about 60 more than its executive German rivals thanks to a new twin-turbo V8.
However, our absolute favorite of the bunch, the LC F, will also be released by the end of the year. Not only will the LC F improve on the absolutely stunning design of the sports coupe, but it will also be receiving a healthy power upgrade. The same twin-turbo featured in the LS will be seen in the LC, boasting relatively insane power for its class. We assume this will knock the socks any passenger in the vehicle, not to mention the rear tires. However, Lexus has made sure to make the proper chassis and aero adjustments to handle the added power. We are sure it will be a difficult task to make 660 HP anything near tame in the LC F.
Expect 2021 to be a continually exciting year for the Lexus brand. We hope this revival of the F models will bless our streets with a couple more to gawk over. We need them.
