2022 Lexus IS 500 Obliterates Dodge Charger 392
Even though the Charger 392 Hemi makes an exciting racket, it is no match for the 2022 Lexus IS 500 in a drag race.
Automotive enthusiasts worldwide have a soft spot for naturally aspirated V8 motors. Unfortunately, because of the growing popularity of SUVs, crossovers, and pickup trucks, there aren’t many options for buyers looking for a V8-equipped performance sedan. In a recent Sam CarLegion video, the YouTuber drag races a 2022 Lexus IS 500 against a Dodge Charger 392.
This is an important race as the two contenders are the only V8 sedans available in many markets. Sam owns the dark Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance we see in the video. The 2022 Dodge Charger 392 Hemi in the video is a Daytona-spec model and offers vibrant visuals throughout the races.
As our avid readers might already know, the IS 500 Sport Performance is less powerful than the 392 Hemi. The 5-liter V8 motor in the Lexus churns out 472 BHP of maximum power and 395 lb-ft of peak torque. The car only weighs 3980 lbs, and an 8-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the rear wheels.
According to Toyota’s luxury sub-brand, the 2022 Lexus IS 500 can hit the 60 MPH mark from a complete standstill in just 4.4 seconds.
The massive 6.4-liter powerplant in the Dodge Charger 392 produces 485 BHP of power and 475 lb-ft of torque. The Charger also gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a rear-wheel-drive configuration, but at 4410 lbs, the American offering is slightly heavier than the Lexus. Interestingly, even with its enormous powerplant, the Dodge Charger 392 could not keep up with the IS 500.
It is worth noting that both machines were racing in their model-specific Sport and automatic modes. The Lexus was also the first one across the finishing line in the second race. However, the Charger took the lead in the final set of rolling races thanks to its higher displacement. Nevertheless, Sam was quite happy with the performance of his car.
“One thing I have to say- the Lexus IS 500 has by far the best take, like the best start in terms of rear-wheel-drive cars. I have driven so many of them, and honestly, this car blows my mind,” shares Sam.
