2023 Toyota Crown

The 2023 Toyota Crown will replace the Avalon in the Toyota lineup. We have all the specifications on the new full-size flagship sedan.

Several months ago, we shared the news about the all-new 2023 Toyota Crown coming to America. At that time some details were still unknown. However, Toyota has recently shared all the specifications on its newest flagship sedan, and we are passing that knowledge on to you. And while the Crown may replace the Avalon in the lineup, the Crown is a drastically different vehicle. Whether or not that is a good or bad thing will depend on your viewpoint and what you value in a car. However, you can’t argue that the Crown is a bold design statement that is packed with features.

In our original story on the Crown, we covered thoroughly all the features and various trim levels. We are not going to rehash that information here. But what we will cover here are all of the details that we were speculating about previously and now have been confirmed. We know the pricing levels, power figures and performance specs for the new Toyota. This should all help you decide if this new sedan is right for you and your family.

Three Grades and Two Powertrains

Hybrid MAX

The 2023 Toyota Crown will be available in three grades: XLE, Limited and Platinum. And there will be two powertrains, both of which are hybrid systems. The Toyota Hybrid System (TMS) is the base system with a combined 236 horsepower. The XLE and Limited come standard with this setup which provides a combined EPA rating of 41-mpg. The Hybrid MAX is the all-new performance hybrid system. It will produce 340 horsepower and a stout 400 pound-feet of torque. This unit is standard on the Platinum grade. It is powerful enough to deliver a claimed 5.7 second 0 to 60 mph time. While being efficient enough to earn a 30-mpg combined rating from the EPA.

Smart Wheel Drive

2023 Toyota Crown

The XLE and Limited grades come standard with Toyota’s Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive and the Platinum grade comes with Full-time Electronic All-Wheel Drive. Electronic On-Demand AWD on the XLE and Limited grades employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels when needed. The Full-Time Electronic AWD with the Hybrid MAX powertrain on the Platinum model is where the fun really starts. Power to the front and rear wheels is delivered via a front mounted hybrid motor and a rear-mounted, eAxle electric motor. “Full-Time Electronic All-Wheel Drive adjusts between a 70:30 and 20:80 front- and rear-wheel power split, depending on the driving situation.”

Safe and Comfortable Cabin

Interior

While the 2023 Toyota Crown with the Hybrid MAX powertrain is certainly a decent performer the Crown is not a Supra. The cabin was designed to offer luxury and quiet. The idea is to be able to listen to the XLE standard 6-speaker stereo or Limited and Platinum standard JBL Premium 11-speaker system without distractions from the outside world. But if the outside world should intrude in the worst way possible, you will be covered by the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system that comes standard on all Toyota Crown grades.

Style

Bronze Age

Love it or hate it the 2023 Toyota Crown makes a bold design statement. On the Platinum grade you can even get two-tone paint. The black paint can be combined with Oxygen White, Heavy Metal, Supersonic Red or an all new, bi-tone only Bronze Age color. On the XLE and Limited grades available colors include Black, Oxygen White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Heavy Metal and Supersonic Red. 19-inch wheels are standard and larger 21-inch wheels are an option.

Pricing

2023 Toyota Crown

The 2023 Toyota Crown starts at $39,950 for the XLE grade, $45,550 for the Limited grade and $52,350 for the Platinum grade. That is several thousand dollars more than the outgoing Toyota Avalon. But the Crown does offer a significant amount of newer technology. And with the bold styling, you won’t lose one in a crowded parking lot. They should be on dealer lots in early 2023.
