Toyota Unveils Ninth-Generation, Hybrid-Only 2025 Camry

2025 Camry XSE

Powered (only) by Toyota’s fifth-gen hybrid system, every 2025 Camry now boasts 232 HP, but the smooth 301 HP V6 option is gone, baby, gone.

Toyota USA today unveiled the 2025 Toyota Camry alongside the first-ever 2025 Crown Signia, which you can read about HERE. Set to arrive in dealerships in the Spring of 2024, the ninth-generation Camry has been visually refreshed inside and out. New exterior. More tech and features on the inside. All-wheel drive is available on every grade. But unlike the outgoing 2024 model year, engine options have dropped down to one. Yes, gone are the naturally aspirated 4-cylinder and V6 options. Instead, every 2025 Camry will be a hybrid powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and the first Toyota to run the company’s fifth-generation hybrid system.

At this time, Toyota has only announced four different “grades” (aka models or trims) – LE, SE XLE, XSE – which is much simpler than the outgoing model year. In the Toyota cinematic universe, S models are the sportier ones with revised suspension tuning and a few bolder exterior upgrades (dual exhaust, bro!). And the X signifies Camrys with more premium features (and premium options). Historically speaking, Toyota typically expands the range with special editions like TRD and special packages like Nightshade. So we’ll have to see if those come at a later date.

Regardless, while the engineers remain focused on offering sporty (ish?) Camry variants, without a V6, the Camry seems squarely designed for comfortable, economical, commuting. Also, as we write this, pricing has yet to be announced, but we would guess that the pricing would be in line with, or slightly above, 2024 Camry Hybrid pricing.

[EDITOR’S NOTE: We’re going to pivot to talking about features available on all grades, including engines, colors, technology, and safety, but we’ve also included a full breakdown of all four grades toward the bottom of this article.]

Hybrid Only & Available AWD (R.I.P. V6)

2025 Camry XSE

We’ll start with the bad news for V6 enthusiasts. The optional 301 horsepower 3.5L naturally aspirated V6 is dead. And so is, for that matter, the naturally aspirated 4-cylinder option. Instead, the only (currently announced?) ninth-generation Camry motor will be Toyot’s fifth-generation Hybrid System paired with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. In front-wheel-drive models, that’s good for 225 horsepower. With the optional electric on-demand All-Wheel-Drive system — available on every trim level for the first time — that total system output is 232 horsepower, 30 more ponies than the outgoing 2024 Camry Hybrid system.

Interestingly, the AWD system works by decoupling itself in normal cruising (for added efficiency). But if you need traction — for acceleration, cornering, or driving in slippery conditions — the system automatically adds power to the rear wheels. Toyota also claims that it has revised the brakes and re-tuned the suspension “for enhanced responsiveness and agile handling which adds a sense of thrill when taking on those twisting and turning roads.” The sportier SE and XSE models offer “increased comfort, while still providing even greater stability, handling, and confidence behind the wheel.”

Toyota has not yet released fuel economy estimates for the 2025 Camry, but 2024 Camry Hybrid models deliver 46 to 52 mpg combined depending on grade and drivetrain. Despite Toyota boosting the 2025-model’s power, we expect its fuel economy to match or exceed the outgoing model.
