2JZ-Swapped 2020 Toyota Supra

In one of its recent videos, Honnigan announces a new series as the guys test a 2JZ-swapped 2020 Toyota Supra.

YouTube channels Hoonigan has brought us many exciting videos, including several adrenaline-fuelled drag races. Earlier this week, the YouTube channel announced a new show called “Dyno Everything.” In the very first episode of the new series, the boys at Hoonigan test a 2JZ-swapped 2020 Toyota Supra to see if the sports car can hit the 1000 HP mark.

As our avid probably already know, the 2JZGTE inline-six cylinder motor is one of the most popular Toyota powerplants. The car we have here started life as an A80 Toyota Supra. Under its hood, we now find a custom-built 2JZ motor. Unlike the BMW inline-six powerplant in the stock Supra, the 2JZ engine sits upright. The iron-block hooks up to a new driveshaft, transmission, and differential.

Hoonigan team is joined by Marc, the proud owner of the vehicle, who shares his thoughts on the swap. “The motor sits pretty far back in there, so it helps with the handling; obviously, it’s nice,” explains Marc. He adds, “Putting the motor in the car took like a day. It, it’s almost made for it; it really is made for it.”

The A80 Supra was available with a Getrag manual transmission from the factory. However, that’s not the case with this 2J-swapped 2020 Toyota Supra.

It isn’t easy to find one of these rare models for a competitive price. Therefore, this 2020 Toyota Supra uses a Getrag 420G gearbox that it shares with the E39 BMW M5 and E46 M3 and other BMW models from the 90s.

This Supra’s rear differential is also a BMW component and comes out of an E92 M3. It is worth noting that the new differential’s final drive point matches the specs of the new Supra perfectly, whereas A80’s gear ratios are a very close match to that of the Getrag 420G gearbox.

So how did the 2JZ-swapped A80 Supra fare on the Dyno? Unfortunately, this beastly Supra failed to cross the four-digit mark even after three pulls. Nevertheless, it was revealed that the car’s extensive modifications allowed it to produce 917 HP of maximum power.
