5 Lexus SEMA Builds that Stunned Sin City

Lexus at SEMA

SEMA’s gone virtual in 2020. Thus, we look back upon the New ’10s to find the five Lexus builds to roll the dice upon our hearts.

The good news? This year is inching towards the finish line. The bad news: it’s claimed another victim. Unable to host the thousands of auto professionals in Las Vegas in 2020, the annual SEMA Show is going virtual instead. Of course, Lexus hasn’t turned up in Sin City since the 2018 SEMA Show, so we’re not missing out too much.

However, Lexus knows how to stun at the annual trade show. Thus, we combed through the previous decade to come up with our five favorite builds to ever grace the SEMA Show floor. Here they are!

Back when Lexus arrived on the scene, it did so with a stack of champagne glasses filled with the bubbly on the hood of the LS. Said ad campaign was meant to show off the smoothness of the flagship sedan’s V8 at the time.

Fast-forward to 2018, when Lexus arrived at SEMA with a wine cooler in the trunk of a 2019 ES 350 F Sport “Culinary Build.” Built by racing legend Scott Pruett, the ES included an iceless bottle chiller, insulated four-glass case, and a temp-controlled wine fridge. According to Wine Spectator, the ES made the rounds at Monterey, Pebble Beach and Aspen, where fine wines and Lexuses go hand in hand.

Cameron Aubernon's path to automotive journalism began in the early New '10s. Back then, a friend of hers thought she was an independent fashion blogger.

Aubernon wasn't, so she became one, covering fashion in her own way for the next few years.

From there, she's written for: Louisville.com/Louisville Magazine, Insider Louisville, The Voice-Tribune/The Voice, TOPS Louisville, Jeffersontown Magazine, Dispatches Europe, The Truth About Cars, Automotive News, Yahoo Autos, RideApart, Hagerty, and Street Trucks.

Aubernon also served as the editor-in-chief of a short-lived online society publication in Louisville, Kentucky, interned at the city's NPR affiliate, WFPL-FM, and was the de facto publicist-in-residence for a communal art space near the University of Louisville.

Aubernon is a member of the International Motor Press Association, and the Washington Automotive Press Association.
