“HATE”

1. Confounding Infotainment System

Admittedly, the Lexus LC 500 Convertible’s infotainment becomes easier to use over time, it remains the most dated and hardest-to-use system on the market. Where everyone else — including the aftermarket — has moved to phone-esque and large touchscreen displays, the LC 500 tucks its wide, but small screen into the dash. And the only way to operate the menu system, which includes HVAC and audio-visual controls, is to use a touchpad that feels like a twenty-year-old laptop. Even if you want to adjust the heating and cooling on the seats, you have to dive into a menu screen and hope you don’t repeatedly over-navigate your selections.

Is it liveable? Yes. But God help you if you have any type of condition where fine motor skills are a challenge. I really wish Lexus had kept more tactile buttons, knobs, and dials because the ones that do remain in this car are spectacular.

1. Gorgeous Styling

Yes, it’s sporty. Yes, the engine sounds terrific. Yes, the drop-down driving experience is excellent. And, yes, the interior is gorgeous and comfy. But the number one reason to love the LC 500 Convertible is the absolutely stunning visuals. This is a car that, in my opinion, may stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the most gorgeous cars in automotive history. In the ’60s, Ford had Mustang and Cadillac had big swooping wings. Name the classic car beauty of your choice. And today, Lexus has the LC 500. From its snarly-sparkily grille to the futuristic headlamps, stunning curves, and dramatic angles, the LC 500 is a running, driving piece of art. As my colleague, Pouria, said to me, it’s a fashion statement. And I agree.

You want a car that turns heads? That makes you look back every time you park it? This is the one for you.
