This 2010 Lexus GX 460 Got the Land Cruiser Prado Treatment
It looks like a Land Cruiser Prado, but has the innards of a 2010 Lexus GX 460. What more could you want?
Any Toyota/Lexus enthusiast knows all about the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The off-road prowess, the powerful diesel options and trimmings, and the unfortunate fact that it’s not for sale in the United States. Taking matters into their own hands, the owner of this 2010 Lexus GX 460 had the right idea before it went up for auction over at Cars and Bids: borrow a few imported parts from a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado of the same model year, but maintain the comfort and luxuriousness of the GX 460 to make the perfect comfortable off-road vehicle.
On the outside, most of the body styling was left alone. Save for the headlights, the Prado 150 fascia (coming with the Toyota emblem), running boards, tailgate, tail lights, emblems and the 19-inch Prado-specific wheels. On the interior, the owner paid extra attention to detail and swapped out all Lexus badges for Toyota. Retaining the luxuriousness of Lexus, the wood paneling, leather seats and steering wheel were left. Some standard equipment, like the center console, shift knob and cup holders were swapped with those from a 2021 GX 460 to keep things sleek and modern. Oh, and of course, the infotainment screen had to stay.
In order to keep up the off-road image, the ever-dependable 4WD system was left intact – complete with an electronic locking limited-slip center differential. Putting the power to those Prado wheels is the 1UR-FE 4.6 liter V8 that makes 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque, paired with the standard six-speed automatic transmission – simple, yet effective. With the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System leftovers as part of the deal, most trails will be a breeze while being incredibly comfy. Off-roading/overlanding in comfort is no longer exclusive to Land Rover or Mercedes.
While this SUV was already sold at auction for $18,250, it illuminates something very important: you can get the elusive Land Cruiser Prado in the United States. You just have to get a 2010 Lexus GX 460, practice a little patience, and enjoy the finished product. It’s sure to catch the eyes of off-road enthusiasts, since a Land Cruiser Prado is a very rare sighting in the states. This special vehicle left the auction block with 189,000 miles on the clock, but with Lexus’ reliability, it’s sure to last the lucky new owner a long while.
Seeing that the plates are from New Jersey, the new owner will have plenty of opportunities to get into some dirty, muddy or snowy mischief with this well-equipped Lexus-Prado (Lado? Prexus?). We’ll be keeping an eye on YouTube to see if there’s any content with it in that regard. Otherwise, we’ll just be here drooling over the photos, wishing we could have been at that auction.
