A Decade in the Making: Behold This Collection of 1st-Gen SCs
Back in 2012, one Club Lexus member started to build a 2JZ-GTE SC400. In 2021, he has four of them ready to burn up the street!
Before the LC took up the flag for Lexus coupes, the SC proudly flew the L for Toyota’s grand experiment. Both the SC300 and SC400 delivered sporty looks with luxury and performance for those wanting a more subtle approach to the Supra. A successful formula to be sure.
Twelve years after the last of the first-gen SCs left the assembly line, a Club Lexus member returned to document the build of his SC400, with the intent of swapping in the Supra’s 2JZ-GTE. Nearly a decade later, he has four of them, each ready to go at a moment’s notice.
“I always loved the looks of the SC300 & SC400,” wrote our super moderator, gerrb, back in March 2012. “Two years ago, I tried to get an SC300 swapped with a 2jzgte 6 speed but an A**hole who was then a member of this forum fooled me. I was so disappointed that I literally chopped that car in pieces and kept all the usable parts. I stopped lurking around this forum and turned my attention on the Supra MKIVs and their forums. In the course of two years I have owned a number of MKIVs and still do today.”
However, he returned to Club Lexus with a non-running SC400 to document the new 2JZ-GTE build. Back then, he aimed to make a drag car out of it. Little did he know this SC would soon become just one of a handful to live with him.
“Black Pearl is now officially on a long time out,” wrote in February 2015. “After all, I still have to get White Pearl (Red Mamba One) painted white, button up Red Mamba and get it running, and then install the drive train which is also ready (I will just use that built engine I bought from a friend which I buttoned up a couple of months ago here since no one was buying it) for Blue Angel, then get it painted RSP… so it will be a while before Black Pearl can be worked on. I will have to get red, white and blue first all in good running condition and painted.”
One became four only three years in, not to mention the many parts cars he acquired for himself and others. Each one of his main SCs packed a ton of power with a pair of turbos attached to their 2JZ-GTEs. One of them even made over 1,000 horses with the help of nitrous. Just imagine where things would go from there.
Today, this 309-page thread’s featured the hard work of building and running four SC models, along with the 20-plus rides to pass through his home. This is the pursuit of perfection taken to the next level. We suspect this thread’s got another 309 pages ahead, too.
