LC 500h, an ‘Incredible Piece of Tech’

There’s nothing like a trip across the Alps from Munich to Milan to put Lexus’ latest flagship model through its paces.

With the death of the Lexus LFA, the Japanese automaker set out to create another two-door flagship to showcase the best that Lexus has to offer. The LC 500h is the best thing that Lexus’ engineers and designers could come up with, and Alphr took an example of the coupe on a trip from Munich, Germany to Milan, Italy to see what it’s like.

One of the greatest things about the LC 500h is its exterior design, which the outlet believes is a hate-it-or-love-it look. “Take one look at the LC 500h and, depending on your opinion, it’s either one of the coolest-looking things on the road or an absolute monstrosity,” says Alphr. We, like the outlet, think the car is absolutely gorgeous. “It’s still one of the most eye-catching cars on the road today, and where I stopped on my trip, it drew attention – including the odd thumbs-up.”

The interior also has a stunning design, which comes off as upscale. “Regardless of the interior you go for, the LC 500h’s cabin looks stylish,” says the outlet. The interior, though, does take some getting used to. “When I first drove the LC 500h in Ibiza, I was concerned by its heavily inset infotainment screen and counterintuitive trackpad system, but after some time with the LC 500h I’ve grown to like it.”

Besides the LC 500h’s breathtaking looks, the coupe also has a sporty characteristic when it comes to the way the vehicle drives. “The multi-stage hybrid system makes for awesome performance,” says Alphr.

‘On twistier roads around Lake Como and the Bavarian Alps, the LC 500h felt pretty agile – and even more responsive in Sport+ mode.’

The car’s 3.5-liter V6 engine and electric motor pump out a total of 354 horsepower, which makes the coupe extremely quick. “As you’d expect, that makes it rocket-ship quick, and gives it a 0-60 mph time of just 4.7 seconds,” adds Alphr.

The drawback of the LC 500h’s complex system is that it doesn’t sound good. And that, as Alphr claims, is unfortunate, as the vehicle is really enjoyable to drive on a twisty road. “On twistier roads around Lake Como and the Bavarian Alps, the LC 500h felt pretty agile – and even more responsive in Sport+ mode,” says the outlet. “The car is solid and planted at all speeds and, when you throw in fairly stiff suspension and most direct steering, the Lexus feels built for performance.”

In the end, after taking the LC 500h through some of the prettiest roads in the world, Alphr found the coupe to be “an incredible piece of technology.” The grand tourer, as the outlet says, is “a fascinating car, with unique looks inside and out, and it’s a engineering masterpiece under the bonnet.” It sounds like Lexus has created an excellent car to showcase the best of what the automaker has to offer.
