AMG GT-Inspired RC F Build Living the Dream on the Track
Built by Club Lexus member Mingofish, RC F’s evolution into track-day star continues today, features many aftermarket, custom mods.
If you recently bought a new (or new-to-you) Lexus, like an LC, IS or an RC F, and have plans to build it, your first stop should be in our Club Lexus forums. There, you’ll find all kinds of build threads on the Lexus you own. Some just started, others with pages going back years. Either way, you might find ideas on what to do with your build.
Once such build happens to involve an RC F, one owned by member Mingofish. Though the Lexus already had tracks in mind out of the factory, our member’s taken things to the next level over the years.
“When I first started, the car was suppose to be ‘clean,'” Mingofish wrote in 2016, “which is the route I’ve gone in all my previous cars. But then I saw that Renntech Benzo that, made me head a totally different direction […] one hardly sees a Lexus done this way, at least not in Atlanta.”
Purchased in the summer of 2016, the CPO 2015 RC F had 3,600 miles on it before Mingofish began his build. First came the cosmetic mods, specifically the Rennen wheels in brushed platinum with red trim. As he says earlier on in the thread, a Mercedes-AMG GT in white with those wheels inspired him to buy a white RC F to do the same. Of course, that was only the beginning.
“I got so many compliments on the new exhaust sound yesterday while at Road Atlanta,” Mingofish said in July 2018. “I haven’t had this many people say something since I removed my Meisterschaft x pipe. The ARH x pipe definitely didn’t get as many compliments, although I personally liked it the best. It was big time raspy on the street in lower rpm, but on track it was awesome. Really high pitched screams that reminisce F1 car sounds.”
As far as power goes, an RR Racing tune makes the 5.0-liter V8 sing through whatever exhaust he installed. The carbon fiber hood is a custom piece from JL Composites (known for making pieces for F1 cars) in Atlanta, Ohlins coilovers provide him with info on the track through whatever tires he runs (currently Toyo Proxes R888Rs). And of course, he gives regular reports on his oil analysis reports following a season of track days. Those are important for anyone wanting to know the condition of their oil after a few hard laps.
As of this writing, the RC F now possesses methanol injection for more power. Mingofish also installed a bolt-in half-cage, a bigger carbon fiber rear wing plus front splitter, and TRD door latches. Though he hasn’t done much in the way of mods since at least his last post in March 2021, he’s been tracking it as usual. We can only wonder how far this Lexus build will go.
Luckily, there’s 33 pages to look over. Perhaps by reading the thread, you, too, might find inspiration and ideas for your build. And once you begin your build, simply join our forums to share with the community. Who knows? You may find your build here one day.
