Auctioning Off 1-Of-200 Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition (VIN 001) for Charity
Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition VIN 001 is obviously a very special machine, and every dollar from its sale will go to some worthy causes.
There’s no denying that the Toyota GR Corolla is not only a pretty amazing driving machine, but also a desirable entity in today’s world, where the hot hatch – in general – has largely disappeared. However, plenty of GR Corollas will undoubtedly be kept under wraps, driven sparingly, or even not at all, all with the notion that it’ll do nothing but gain value over the coming years. Whether or not that comes true remains to be seen, but we can pretty much guarantee that the ultra-limited Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition will become a sure-fire collectible, and now, the. very first one built is set to be auctioned off for charity by the folks at Longo Toyota in El Monte, California.
The world’s largest Toyota dealership does in fact have Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition VIN 001 in its possession, which is one of just 200 slated to be built in total. Rather than sell it with some huge markup or to a VIP customer, the dealer has decided to use its reach for some good, which means that this particular model will be sold on Bring a Trailer in a charity auction set to kick off October 18 and run through the 24. All of the proceeds from the sale – including BaT’s buyer’s fee – will go to the El Monte Schools and Vision To Learn, and the winner will take delivery of the car at no cost thanks to the car transportation tech platform RunBuggy.
The school system will use the funds from this auction to create new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) labs for students, as well as buoy a transportation career technical education program that gives students hands-on automotive industry experience. Other proceeds will help Vision To Learn, a nonprofit organization that provides screenings, eye exams, and glasses at no charge to students from low-income communities across the U.S.
As for the prize itself, well, it’s a special one. The Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition is a track-focused version of the already hot hatch, one that’s named after GR Master Driver and Toyota president Akio Toyoda. It features more of pretty much everything than the regular GR Corolla, including power – 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque in this case – along with a manual gearbox, roughly 100 pounds of weight reduction, forged wheels, a forged carbon fiber roof, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, unique suspension tuning, and additional chassis bracing – making it one heck of a desirable machine that deserves to be driven as intended, on the track. Luckily, someone will get the chance to do precisely that here, albeit with every dollar they spend going to some very worthy causes.
