Autocar: SC Will be an Affordable LFA, Coming in 2016
According to the Autocar, the Lexus LF-LC Concept will become the next-gen SC–and will be aimed squarely at Stuttgart’s 911. The best part of the story is that we could see the car as soon as 2016. You can read Jim Holder’s full piece here.
Personally, I love the idea of a halo car that will go toe-to-toe with what’s widely regarded as one of the best driver’s cars of this–or any, really–era. And if Lexus isn’t going engage Ferrari in a full-out shooting war, I think it serves as a better target for a proper halo car, than the BMW M4, which is where the RC F was designed to engage.
The only real problem with the LFA was it was almost too exclusive. Doug Demuro did a hilarious post about that idea, and I have to say I agree with his line of thought (though Demuro would likely never admit to having a coherent thought). Unless you count Cars and Coffee–which is kind of cheating–I’ve only seen one of them in the wild. Los Angeles is a parade of Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Astons and the like, but you’re unlikely to see an LFA, outside of a car show.
So if the next Lexus halo car is aimed at a car that starts at around 80k? We’ll see way more of them–and that’s alright with me.
